I rode on the Kawasaki Z800 launch only a few weeks ago with Kev. Over opinionated, but massively knowledgeable, he was a real gentleman. I have three young daughters, Kev had three teenage daughters. He was always at his happiest talking about them and offering much needed advice on the subject. Constantly ready to take the piss out of anyone and with skin thicker than a BKS one-piece, he'll be very sadly missed.

Spoken to him a couple of times on the phone and he is a top bloke and a true biker not just a jumped up journalist. RIP

As others have said, I wasn't too keen on his style of writing, none the less he was a great guy.

RIP.

Fk'n ell. Godspeed Kevin! If heaven exists, I hope you're up there ripping around on Rossi's old M1 or summat

Shocking considering he's probably one of the older bike journalists in the UK but I suppose SA really is as dangerous as they say

The loss of Kevin Ash to motorcycle journalism is incalculable. He was one of the good guys. He knew his subject intimately, and like any good journalist, his opinions could, and would, excite a debate amongst us.

His writing style was far more eloquent than most of his peers, his understanding of motorcycle mechanics seemingly bottomless, yet he had an innate ability to get some of the most technologically difficult subject matter across in such a way that most of us could undertand what he was saying. That is a rare gift indeed.

I've said it elsewhere on the internet, and for those of you old enough to remember, to me he was the LJK Setright of motorcycle journalism, and will be sorely missed.

I've just realised. Is this the Guy who does 'Ash on bikes'?
If so it's a shame... Best motorbike reviews going, technically detailed, ignores the hype, writes his own opinion, will be missed.

A very sad loss. I wonder if those who disliked his writing had only seen his attempts at being a motormouth and not the recent columns in MCN on the technical aspects of bikes, which were very good and insightful. I shall miss those more than his outspoken pieces.

RIP Kevin.
