I don't buy bike mags now apart from MCN - But its news to me that certain mags are known as chavy? I'm sure Shane Byrne, Gary Mason and Rob Frost were not and still aren't chavs?

Shakey Byrne even has the links to clips of his 'best days' riding for Fast Bikes from his website. Also Fast Bikes in that era sponsored and brought riders through the ranks like Sean Emment, Frosty, Mason and of course Shakey.

I'd still be buying it if it was out there - Looked like the bikes got tested and honest opinions were given.

It's quite funny that fast bikes is now labelled a chav magazine when really it sounds like it was more chavvy in the 'glory days'

What makes it chavvy now compared to back then when they were just total hooligans crashing half the bikes they were loaned??
The editor was intelligent and the writers were the real deal. Today they try to have the same bad ass approach but they are pretend and write for 14 year old hoodie wearers.

Also, it looks like the page numbers are correct, which will never do!

just read ride as I subscribe to it for a free lock which still hasn't came.

after one issue I am pretty certain I'll be phoning them to cancel it

compared to bike it's woeful, not my cup of tea at all.

loads and loads of adventure bike reviews, middle aged fat bearded men in high vis textiles which constant mentions of iam and flip up helmets.

not for me.........

Big market for those sorts these days though. Streetfighters magazine is dead, long live the Beardy weirdies on their BMWs.

The last few bike mags i've bought have been Ride. Mostly because i use a bike for high miles, so high-vis, touring textiles, schuberth lid and goretex gloves all the way for me!

I think i tend to buy Bike during the summer when i inevitably read some review of a sportsbike that i think i ought to own and buy something i will later regret (owning a GSXR750 K5 for two weeks springs to mind).

Just why do people object to flip up helmets?

Who cares. Leave the power rangers to suffer. Nothing better than flipping the lid for a blast of air to the face when you slow down through a village on a warm sunny day (remember them?).

And as much as i dislike Michael Schumaker if it is good enough for him then who am i to argue!

Obviously because their SHARP ratings don't compare well to non-flappy helmets in the same price bracket.

D'uh.

God yeah, if only my helmet had some kind of visor arrangement that would go up or down instead of a sealed window. Maybe it could even have notches so that it would stay not all the way up or not all the way down.... hmmm, 'visor down' that has a certain ring to it, maybe that could catch on!

'Cos you look like a bellend wearing one.

One way valve to the chemical castration that IS IAM Membership... biggrin

Also, most wearers are bearded. Which is never good.

Good to see how much the IAM's improved its image on PH smile Though I think RiDE's articles have caused issues for the IAM, because of the reporting of speeding.

I agree the last issue was woeful. I remember RiDE being a good read in the past. Has it gone downhill?

At least the old product tests in RiDE used to be meaningful, because they were done properly. Now there's no testing. PH is more informative than some bloke's opinion in RiDE.

Adventure bikes aren't my cuppa tea, but they do seem to be all the rage, and IAM bike membership has grown hugely. So it makes commercial sense for RiDE to focus on these readers. I just wish the magazine had more interesting features.

moanthebairns, my free disc lock arrived ages ago from RiDE. You should complain if yours hasn't.

The good old days. I stopped buying it when Schiller sold up, i still have all the early issues in the loft.

Those vids were crazy but excellent.
Same for me and bought all of the dvd's. Didn't Schiller sell up because of the costs associated with getting the magazine on the shelves in shops and thus he needed the "power" of a corporate house behind the magazine.

I have gone back to Performance Bike.

I occasionally read (and sometimes even buy) "Bike" and "Performance Bikes".

Some of the "Bike" articles are good. I like the "Performance Bikes" builds and 360° garage.

I'm more interested in what people are doing to maintain and improve slightly older bikes rather than the latest bike with new paint, 0.5bhp more peak bhp than last year's (in the top 2 gears only) and 1Kg less weight.

"Practical Sportbikes" had potential, but whenever I see it in the shops it seems to have at least one RD350 on the cover. There's possibly not enough original(old) material and information to sustain it.

just called it was sent the 1st of may so should get it soon they say.

yip that issue was awful. I sat next to the pool after reading 4 months of Bike and was just blown away by how badly it was put together and how un interesting it was. The O/H was reading her hello and ok sat next to me and it honestly looked like a similar sty magazine, the layout the paragraph articles, the viewers pictures it was just dreadful. I was through it in 20 minutes.

I couldn’t put Bike down on the other hand.

Hiya, I'd definitely be chasing RiDE if the disc lock was allegedly posted on 1st May. That's two weeks ago! Either they are bluffing, because they ran out of stock, or the lock's been lost in the post. Give 'em some stick punch

Good luck! I hope you get your disc lock in the end.
