I don't watch Moto GP on the BBC or F1. Eurosport for Moto GP and I know they don't do it live but if it's on there a hour after I can live with that.
the BT deal is for exclusive broadcast rights in the UK. so no more Eurosport coverage.

I can see that Dorna will do very nicely out of this deal. What has BT paid ? £1 billion ? really? On top of that there are the huge expenses of getting the gear to every round+ the "presenters" fees.

Maybe that fee covers the acquisition rights to all the football etc as well, but I can see this being almost a huge white elephant given that they must pay Sky something to use their satellite channels too?

I mean who do you know that has signed up to BT Vision or whatever & even if a number of people DO pay their 15 quid & look happy it's gonna be years before they recover those sort of costs.

I just hope that MotoGP benefits from the legacy of this cash & riders & teams all get a proportion of it.

I seem to recall commenting that MotoGP needed an Ecclestone type figure to shove it into the limelight but at least when he grasped the reins of F1 it was largely a free airing on TV for years after.
I do hope that Ezpeleta & his cronies don't end up being multi millionaires on the back of it & the teams struggling to survive & thrive. Maybe increased exposure(IF THAT happens !) might mean more sponsorship?

There are a number of positive comments about this deal.

Funny thing is they are from the likes of Matt Roberts, Jake Humphrey, MCN, Marc Potter & even Cal Crutchlow....

Well that's shot the fox.

As you can probably tell I actually enjoy watching Charlie and Stavros and have been a big MotoGP fan for 4-5 years now, not exactly a life-time, but still. I'm not paying anymore to watch it, my Sky bill is already stupid thanks to F1.

Just shared the news with a friend, he can get it via ESPN it seems (he's on Virgin) is that still going to be the case?

Interesting that comment. I have V.Media too & ESPN is free on Virgin but BT has acquired some or all of ESPN I think ?

So I'd be interested to hear the answer.

Where did the £1bn figure come from? Surely that's the world wide sale of the rights, not what BT paid???
I confess that my well be an inaccurate figure that I picked up from skim-reading something.

I would like to know if that is wrong as it's a helluva lot more than I would think BT can find.

Copy of Dorna press release via MotoMatters.com. Vague hint that Julian Ryder & Keith Heuwen may be involved?

This is tragic. Wether you like BBC coverage or not [I like it and eurosport] it is one less stream to watch our favourite sport.
fk BT
fk Dorna
I love the sport but fked if I'm paying any more than I do, the only reason I have sky at the moment is for eurosport covering MotoGP so I'll kick fking Sky into touch at end of season too!
wkERS!

Sky F1 is absolutely AMAZING, if BTSport do the same with MotoGP & it costs less than 1 night at the cinema, where's the catch?
The catch is most of us don't give a st about whatever "extras" there allegedly are, and don't want to shell out lots of cash for marginal gains.

Personally I just wanted to watch it the bloody racing, I'm not fking interested about big red buttons, camera angles and pointless segments about what rider's motorhomes look like.

I sure as st won't be paying for some new tossbags and camera angles.
^^This^^

You must be a mug to think it's good news to start paying for something which you could have for free.

Me too. I only started watching Moto GP (and enjoying it alot) since Silverstone last year, so I'm saddened by this news. Just like when we heard F1 is moving to Sky. Money is killing everything IMO, F1, Football (which I no longer watch as a result), and now Moto GP. Sad really.

As someone mentioned, Sky F1 gets circa 600,000 viewers - BBC used to get 3m plus! And still does for the live races. Where is the sense in that? for the sponsors etc. Greed is killing sport (and the world economy - especially the Eurozone - but that's another matter).

I would suspect that WSBK will also go to BT Vision with their recent links to Dorna.

It's not BT Vision, it's BT Sport. I've just finished at the BT presentation in the olympic village. The commentating team hasn't been announced because BT don't know themselves yet, the deal has only recently been finalised. BT Sport have added a stack of ex football and rugby guys to the teams that'll be covering those sports (not my cup of tea, the names went over my head), they also made it clear after I asked the question directly, that it's key for them to add an ex racer to the GP team. I don't really care if I have to switch my broadband supplier to BT in order to watch the racing, so long as the rate and service is competitive.

For me, the key thing is getting the right people doing the talking. BT have ambitious plans to massively increase the amount of GP coverage, as well as improving the platforms that we can see it on. No bad thing in my opinion. I'm no BT fan, but I'm certainly not a BBC fan either though. This seems like the perfect opportunity to steal the best guys from both Eurosport and the BBC and build a fresh team.

Espeleta stated that he's not really interested in reaching the largest audience (free to air) possible, but wanted to make sure that viewers got the best possible coverage available, that was why Dorna decided to go with BT. I added a stack of salt to the last bit, you might want to as well.

I didn't arrive this morning expecting to see MotoGP bikes propped up about the place, or Cal and Scott Redding hanging about to answer questions, but that's what we got. They (BT) are certainly going to pump some cash into the job and that can't be a bad thing.

How can they show more? Eurosports show all the qualifying for all three classes, what else is there?

The thing is though Harvey you know your apples when it comes to this sort of thing. The subtle nuances in better line ups etc. is something you'd appreciate. For most of us though, we don't give a st, we pay to see the race and just see these media teams as another former racer in stupid shirt talking garbage. We're being told what we want and we're being told we're paying more for it.

Case in point, if I ever meet to David Coulthard, regardless of the discussion, I'm going to interrupt him every 10 minutes to state that that that F1 tyres "drop off". I will also interject at any momentary pause in conversation, to point out the "visible marbling at the sides of the track" and tell him how "slippy" it is. This is before I speak over him to discuss Lewis Hamilton.

All I can say to that really is '+1'.

The additional 'around the races' stuff that Sky do with F1 is largely ste. The pre-show is FAR too long and the post-race stuff far too short. Most of the 'news' stuff you can get on websites and F1 Racing has much more interesting features. Also, aside from Brundle and, to a lesser extent, Crofty, the presenters are just c*nts with microphones.

The only thing that might save BT Sport is them hiring the Eurosport guys. Even then I still won't pay for it.
