Range/MPG is, curiously, unmentioned in the article
"MPG: 45mpg (est)"

Although it should be noriceably better than this as it's a light bike.

I really wanted to like this bike, as it sounds like a cracking package with an interesting engine.
I have an FZ8N at the moment and had considered a trade as I think the FZ is gutless but to me it just looks too fussy.
Too many different shades of black/grey and too much going on. When I saw there was going to be an orange version I googled and I thought I would like it but I still don't.
I think I'll stick with the FZ and throw some go faster goodies at it.

I will let you know what I think later this month. Test ride booked for when it comes in, and I shall see if I can borrow Mitzy's FZ8 to get there to do a back to back comparison

Exactly the same here. If it's any cop, I'll ditch the FZ8.

Been looking forward to the first ride report for a while. Great to hear it lives up to the promise.

Having never even considered buying a new bike before I'm going to be booking a test ride soon.

MCNs report isn't too complimentary.

An edgy triple from Japan? This could be a killer combination. I just hope it sounds better than the Triumph whining washing machine.
Really? I love the sound of a Triumph. They sound so distinctive

As a previous owner of an XS850 with a sports can; if they've retained the sound then it will be very seductive if you venture out for a test ride.

Aye 45mpg is st for a light bike. Both my modern bikes beat that in normal use & they both weigh as much as a bus.

Surely a 120 crank is even-firing, not uneven (like the first 180 Laverda Jotas for example)?
Just saying, like. Looks like the perfect bike, whatever.
It could be even firing with a power stroke every 240 degrees, but it doesn't have to be. At the extreme you could have three power strokes at 120 degree intervals and then a big wait.

MCN review came out yesterday. I think they managed 58 mpg (IIRC, I need to double check).

They did also say Yamaha have literally just killed the FZ8. Faired versions due soon. ABS due early next year.

I must admit this is the only new bike I've genuinely been tempted by.

Me too. Apart from the fuelling, it sounds perfect. Sounded unusable in A mode according to MCN.

I think I'll wait until next year for the "dual sport" version or whatever they call it. Be good to get any new product teething out of the way too.

Test ride got to be worthwhile. That YouTube video of it starting up sounds just like my ST1050.

Remarkable value-especially given Yamaha's pricing lately, but then they'd have to compete with the Street Trip pricing which is similar.
Does look good spec though.

My '13 ST only manages 50mpg.

Gladys's gets 45, albeit she's a little bit heavier than the MT.
