I wasn't tubby when I got the 14 tbh & I need to sort it out as I don't like being fat.

I just find little things bug me a lot if they are slightly wrong & I'll never settle with the bike (or indeed car) because of them.

Been riding for about 20 years and I've never test ridden a bike before. Probably should have, the Tuono I had was too much of a handful for every day and I sold it after 2k miles. The Explorer is about 200 miles away so I guess the only option is to find a closer bike if I want to ride it first. Reviews are really good so I suppose I'd like it. That's part of the reason I was hoping to find some owners on here.

A mate chopped in his TDM900 for a Super Tenere, didn't get on with it and got an Explorer instead, which he loves. He just got back from a 2 week trip to spain and reckons it's all day comfortable, He has a few hassles with the dealer but has switched to using a different dealer and they seem way better so you may want to investigate how good your local ones are.

Father-in-law has got one and he loves it. This year he's owned a Pan, FZ1, VFR800 and now the Explorer. He never felt completely happy with the other 3 but he really rates this one and reckons it rides well, loves the sound and feedback of the triple and its practical with full luggage. He's quite short so has the lowered seat and still thinks its comfortable. The bike has pretty much every option except the Arrow exhaust and has had no problems in the first few thousand miles of ownership. I know he looked at all the alternatives before purchase, the Super Tenere didn't appeal and BMW's are too common. Not sure why he discounted the rest.

Looks good, sounds great, goes well and is very versatile.

Thanks for the replies. Dealer wouldn't budge on price and trade in value wasn't brilliant so I'll keep looking for a more local one I can test ride. Good to know feedback is mostly positive.

As well as the Cross Tourer being best bike that I had test ridden, Honda also gave me 40% more than Triumph on my trade in.

Just from sitting on them, the Triumph felt really hefty. The Crosstourer isn't small but it felt far lighter (whether it is or not) and I'd agree about the general feel/build quality too. Try and find a test ride somewhere if you can. The engine is supposed to be a peach.

Have no experience with the Triumph, but the Crosstourer looks great and the engine is a peach.

Wormus,

I know that this was a year ago, but what happened in the end? As an Explorer owner of 15,000 miles, I'm curious....

Not a big believer in test rides either. I'll normally take two rides of no more than 15 minutes each, just to make sure that there are no really nasty surprises (like not being able to reach the ground on a Trophy, or that a K100RS 16V had no character - both of which were pretty apparent within the first 5 minutes!). Beyond that, I'd rather leave it to when I've got the bike to start learning all about it, otherwise what is there to look forward to on delivery day?!

John.

Hi, the dealer made me a stupid offer for my ZX12 and I worked out it was going to cost too much to trade up. In the end a mate sold me his very tidy ZZR1400 with full Akrapovic system and power commander for a price I couldn't refuse. Absolute rocket ship of a thing, in fact it's bound to lose me my license at some point!

How are you enjoying the Explorer?

I went the other way and traded my ZZR14 for a Multistrada 1200 - doesn't have the top end of the ZZR (flat out on the autobahn with top box the satnav said 149) but its all day comfortable - did Scotland and the Alps this year and in sport mode it wheelie's just the same smile
