Wow I've not seen those god awful tyres in years!!! yikes

Obviously they are just for wheeling it about on...no need to reply I was just saying...that tread pattern gives me flashbacks to my mate binning a Thunderace on them

No sexy engine bits have turned up yet from the US, but my cases are back from stan trenched to clear the new crank

Need a good clean and dusting over in satin black, few studs need putting back in too but apart from that they're good to go.

In purgatory waiting for parts, crank and head is ready to ship but cylinders are at the platers apparently

They are cast specifically for the stroke I'm using which isn't one of the more common ones so nothing on shelf

Booked in for pipes mid august, apart from that nothing to report frown

Nightmare, waiting for parts is a bloody pain. Especially when you get sooooo close and there's a diflap widget pin missing which costs 10p and stops the whole build!!
As an aside, did you hear Smads engine destroyed itself?? Seems he couldn't resist over revving it despite knowing 10500 was the motors absolute top limit and it finally broke a rod and totalled the motor. Few too many trips to 11000 looking for that last bit of power and now it's $$$$$$$$$$$$
PLEASE work out your safe rpm limit and set it in the programable ignition unit!! less than 500rpm can mean the difference between fun or distatser!

Yeah he sent me a few pics, made a right mess but it's his own fault unfortunately for revving the knackers off it! Been advised to cap the limit around 10250 smile it'll be making plenty of power at 10k, in fact all the ones I've seen tail off after 10. He's having it repaired and sleeved now as the TSS barrels are not obtainable anymore - bummer

Yep, after all he went through to get it going frown
Simple way to be sure is there's a calc involving rod length and rpm etc. Derives piston speed and then look to keep it below xxx mtrs/sec. Seem to remember 21 or 26 mtr/sec is the happy zone but maybe double check. It works for every motor and even high revving motors like the S1000RR keep their piston speeds within the zone.
Nice thing is it tells you where your safe zone o even if it's making power way lower, you know you have a safety margin of x rpm if you want a bit of over rev, without destroying the motor.
Have a look here for some useful stuff http://www.wiseco.com/Calculators.aspx

For what I'm going to have in this motor I'll be playing it safe. Smads bike will probably be better than ever with the new bits, the TSS stuff never seemed to work very well. I even have an email from Steve @ TSS himself telling me his super duper balanced crank that he sold for those builds, was in fact a total cock up by his engineer and not balanced at all!!!

Yep, keep it below 25 IMO if you want it to last any length of time hehe

The TSS shambles is what i mean. Steve Rothwell is a lying so don't believe a spoken or written word from him. Wobbly was a reliable as a British Summer but knows his stuff. Steve is just a Snake Oil Salesman. The song and dance thay made about the 90 degree cranks was farcical
Point is Maths can be used to verify pretty much everything rather than relying on some dubious individuals promises. Just goes to show how much demand there is for a decent 500 2T bike!! Measure twice, cut(pay) once!!
But yeah, you are elegant and simple with well known components and such. Smads i think just wanted as much as possible without understanding the set up and it's characteristics and limitations, hence where he's at now.
Mind you, i did the same running my X7 on pure Tolulene(Octane Boost). When like a rocket for about 6 miles then showed me what it was made of, literally.

Cheers

Yeah he told me the 90 degree one was pants and the tungsten balanced one that smads will have been running was also not balanced at all -LOL

Mental. Such a shame so many people have been had over. I'll look into this mate, better be safe than sorry
