Another of me rolling through the gears only up to about 8k

http://youtu.be/1bSypLcclvg

We had to put 4 straps on for the power runs as it was looking like wanting to climb off the dyno and it spun up a few times.

The fking about continues, done a drawing to get some bell mouths made up for the carbs, not much space so they aren't very long.. Took the dims off this pic wink

Seems I need to have a good read up on mikuni needles and tapers before ordering some to try as seemingly no one has a fking clue what the codes mean! Then I'll get back on the dyno at some point.

What's the thinking on the bell mouths?
Are they going into a filter box or let out in the open air??

Into the foam filter, just thought it would be worth a go. If nothing else they will make the fit of the filter better! Thought adding some length to the inlet might help with the mid range too, but as you can see I won't be adding much!! Not much space to play with, definitely not enough for any kind of air box.

Got ya.

Bear in mind if you have anything within an inch or so of a bell mouth it pretty much ruins the flow into the mouth. If you can, have a look a an RS 250 airbox for ideas. You'll see the rubber trumpets sticking into the airbox a fair way.
Maybe, have a look at making an airbox that keeps hot engine air away from the carb inlets and allows you to pull cool ait into it. By a bit of maths you could create a box with 2 chambers each with a volume larger than the swept cc of that cylinder. Try and get a copy of the Suzuki RGV kit manual for some ideas. I'll mail you a copy if needed.
And re the jetting, just so you're 100%,here's a carb jet diagram from the RGV kit manual telling you what jet does what. The trick is to hold the throttle steady at that opening and let it rev out seeing whether it's lean or rich etc. I've never seen carbs tuned by rolling them on...

I don't think there's any hope in hell of getting an airbox on it, there's not enough room. But I'll have a look anyway just in case, you have my email?

Re - jetting, I know what what bit does what, the problem is the mikuni part numbers seem a bit of a tt to decipher. I think it can be done as some people on the inter webs have looked into it so I'm having a read, but even allens performance don't know. I can easily just pick the next needle up from mine but if I want to change the needle length and / or taper it gets complicated!

I know the original LC's had tiny airboxes, can't imagine the Mito frame makes much provision biggrin

The other option s rather than a conventional airbox, see if you can put a partition in place to direct the engine heated air away from the carb inlets. The RGV manual shows what they recommend.
As for the jets, I've heard Mikuni are a real puzzle with part numbers... Good luck.
Whatsapp me your mail and I'll send you the kit manual. It's in PDF but is a handy thing to reference.

Little update

Bellmouths made up from my drawing and in the post, will be a shame to put a filter over them!

Got some more needles on order, hopefully next time it's on the dyno we will have a fighting chance at getting it somewhere near right.

Decided I'm going to have this paint scheme, but Yamaha blue instead of red. Might have YAGIVA or something too instead of Yamaha lettering, don't really want it to be seen as a TZ copy. Or maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing? Not sure.

The rule of thumb is 1/2 the diameter of the bellmouth, but you can get even closer than that provided the bellmouth isn't shrouded around the sides.
