The banshee scene is huge, they have 611 twins over there making over 140 horses, billet crank cases and huuuge swingarms biggrin

My 443 is a baby compared to some of them. Obviously you've got to do a good job of the build and spend the time setting it up. But it's just as important to just do the research and buy the right bits.

It's not been cheap, but what do you do when no one sells the bike you want, build it!

I guess so. That's pretty much what me and Stan Stephens did with the ''RG500 in an RG250 frame'' bike I had built.
130 bhp and 130 kgs (dry), courtesy of Stan's wizard engine work. I don't know what the rules are now, but it had a daytime MOT and every weight-saving mod we could think of, even down to small number plate, drilled everything and removed everything that was not absolutely necessary.
We actually went with a single disc up front, which people at the time and since said was a mistake, but with modified forks to accept a Brembo caliper, a Brembo drilled disc, Goodrich hoses and a race master cylinder/race fluid, it pulled up the lightweight bike easily.

130hp is impressive, Mark Dent at performance fab has built and tuned many of them but I don't think I've seen any that powerful, might be wrong though.

You have a point about the brakes, they're very very good. Maybe too good. I think the twin calipers look the bks though but it would probably cope fairly well with just the one.

Winter mods

Fitted new slightly bigger radiator and yam R6 fan, everything is a much tidier fit now and plumbed up better. I need to made some form of cowl for the radiator.

Need to mod the side stand a bit as it leans over a bit too far for my liking.

Lots of titanium bolts - more for show than go but I guess it all helps. Done all pinch bolts, calipers bolts, disc bolts, sprocket bolts, all fixings for the subframe and rearsets. Also added titanium nuts to the front and rear spindles and the swingarm spindle. Some fairing bolts as well. Above all else they just look better.

Going to make use of the ignitech ignitions functions and fit a quickshifter, got the bits on their way. Just needs a 2 wire pull switch in the linkage. Can play with all the kill times etc through the CDI.

Going to have the subframe mounts milled down a little as they look a bit clumsy on the bike. Again any weight saved is just a bonus.

Will get it back on the dyno after winter with a handful of needles jets etc and get it dialled in better but I'm just trying to turn it into a finished product now as with anything like this, you can think it's finished but then after riding find lots of little areas to improve. Getting there.

It's a fantastic project. I love 2 strokes and had so much hope for the Bimota V Due, which promised lots and delivered very little. I rode one of those when working for Cycle World in California and the fuel glitches and unreliability from day one were awful. There's nothing to a 2 stroke, how can a company like Bimota not have got it right? ! The direct injection sounded like a great idea but didn't work too well.
I am sure the stage 4 tune RG500 was around 130 bhp?
It had a radical port job by Stan Stephens in Kent, higher compression, 570cc, bigger racing Mikuni carbs, ran petroil rather than oil injection to save weight and engine drag, used race gearbox oil which was thinner than stock, had better ignition and a full race exhaust system. Stock was about 95 so I am sure it had about 35 more? I will try and find out actually, I could have it wrong.

Yeah, it was a shame.. By all accounts the later carbed Vdues were a completely different animal but by then the damage was done. There's a bloke fitting a carbed vdue motor in a RS250 on another forum, looking forward to seeing that. The motor is a proper lump though.

You might be close, Mark Dents latest build was around the 128 mark I think. Serious money though.

Some bits of winter messing done. Never been happy with the Yamaha fuse box with glass fuses, just ste. So cut it out and fitted a 4 way blade fuse box. Also was never happy with the CDI harness, as All that comes with the CDI is a plug I had to take the wires from the loom straight to the plug but there was just enough length resulting in the wires being under stress. Managed to get hold of a new plug and sub harness off a a fella called Rick Oliver who does a lot of stuff for VRF/RVFs, bought my ignitech off him for my old NC30 ages ago. Sent it me for free, was a big help, would recommend him to anyone..

So cut the old plug out and replaced it with the new loom.

Also replaced a few bits and bobs, the odd connector etc. The thing with building something like this is that you get so much practice during the build that by the end of it you end up wanting to re do half the stuff you did at the beginning!!

Nothing worth taking pics of on that front but pleased to keep improving little bits. Changed the bottom hose to a re inforced flexi hose as its a bit of an awkward shape... Changed my clutch Spring bolts to titanium, dunno why, pointless really but they're shiny smile

Topped back up with water and tested quickshifter I wired into the ignitech, seems to work well. Banged it through a few gears here.

Only job left really is my side stand lengthened or a foot welded on then I'm good to go when the weather picks up.

Appreciate what your saying there, I based that on another 485 I know of making 90RWHP, reliably enough it seems.

Bob Farnham made the modifications to the cases on that one.

Last LC gathering I went to, someone had done just the latter of your wish list...and bought a new Bimota V-Due Final Edition !
V Due FE? Stonking. Is that the one where it's hiding in the back room?
Hideously flawed genius of a bile.
I recently if someone made a decent 500 2T capable of about 110 to 115 bhp itd sell well. Can but dream
Where's me order book biggrin

Had a little run to rivvy yesterday was really pleased with the bike it didn't miss a beat. Only a short ride but everything worked well, quickshifter is brill, cooling system much better and generally running better. Still think there are more gains to be had on the ignition and carb needles but it was pretty good.
