1199 S Tricolore - going to be a nice first bike biggrin

Popped into the bike salesroom this morning to check everything over (I'd stuck a deposit over the phone once the deal was done and wanted to see it in the flesh before handing over the cash) and the bike is just stunning. They had the full Panigale range in there from the 899 up to the 1199R and IMHO the Tricolore is the best looking bike Ducati currently make by a mile.

Mine is standard other than carbon hugger and Ducati tail-tidy - just needs nothing else.

Can't wait for it to arrive next Saturday bounce

You should check they have your room ready at royal London for Sunday! biggrin

Jokes aside, did you test ride the 1199 or just buy it? Reason I ask is they are an horrific bike at lower rEvs and speed, proper agricultural and can make road riding a bit of a chore.

That'said, if you're inclined to do some trackways on one, I think you'd enjoy it the most, as a first road bike, I think it's just about the worst you could've got, though!

Goo blooming steady til you get used to a proper big bike, they're light as fook for a supersports bike, but you still have to muscle the flickers around the turns compared to a DAS bike. Plus you'll be going st loads faster.

PS love the kitchen, don't listen to the wag, although I did think 'fk me PH is good when I read that comment,'.

Pops, I only got 3 miles in on my brand new bike before it fked up and left me stranded, but don't bank on beating in on the panigale. It's the next new road bike I'll buy, but I'm expecting it to be a proper pain in the arse too. A pretty one, though!

Good luck chap. Ps where is the bike coming from?

Thanks for the advice - I've got relatively quiet roads around near me, so I'll just be getting back into it locally first before venturing anywhere. I've also got time booked in with my instructor to brush-up/get used to the bike - just so excited about getting it! Reminds me when I got my first "proper" car - an S1 Exige and literally counted down the hours till it arrived.

As for the kitchen jibe - I don't think the guy was aware that the kitchen is nearly worth as much as a Desmo (Gaggenau range/Wolf Oven/Miele Microwave/Sub-Zero Fridge etc) - but I didn't want to come across as a knob(and it was quite funny - the Mrs doesn't even cook!) tongue out

Yep - a 212 S/C - one of two made by AC - a very quick car - 350bhp & 900kg (sadly now sold)!

Thought I'd seen it for sale a while back. Was my number one most wanted at the time smile

Oh and enjoy your Desmo!

This is the stuff to make most of us green with envy.

Beautiful bike. I dont really see much difference in buying a bike capacity sportsbike compared to the 600 sportsbikes a lot of us jumped straight on. Just because a bike has 180 hp doesnt mean you have to use it all. Learn as your confidence grows and all thst jazz. Enjoy the beautiful bike.

Fair play mate. I test rode one a few months ago and it's scared me to death. A very easy bike to ride compared to prior ducatis. Get over to Ducati forum and there's a wealth of knowledge on buying a desmo

Edited to add - looks like your used to powerful cars so just go easy. Looks like we have had some similiar cars , as I had a tommi mak and a v6 Clio. Good taste my man

It's not the speed, it's the fact they're proper dogs up to 5 k revs, really really rough. Then they smooth up and go bananas. The vibes through the bike up to 4 k revs are like a Harley, only not as smooth! : but like I say, will be my next road bike!

It's your money and none of my business, but I'd have thought a 4 grand SV would have been a better bike to start with.

Funnily enough, the last Panigale owner I spoke to said the same. He had taken the bike out of the back of a transporter and jumped on it to put in his garage. I complimented him on the bike and we ended up chatting about it. He said he didn't bother riding it on the road as it was real hard work; agricultural, noisy and generally no fun until you really uncorked it, and finding a road to do that was a challenge in itself, hence he only rode it on track now. The other bikes in the garage, used for road riding? A CBR600 and an R1!

Well, I've not ridden one, but I'll take a punt that inexperienced riders weren't at the forefront of Ducati's mind when they started to design the Desmowhatever Itscalled. To my eyes it looks liked a focused track day weapon for the connoisseur, not a bike to go wobbling round on when you've just passed your Direct Access.

There's talk of it being a dog under 5,000 rpm then going mental. My CBR600 ride like a big, friendly scooter below 8000rpm and then goes (probably slightly less) mental and I'm glad an SV was my first big bike.

I've no issue with the OP having the means to buy one, but you cannot buy experience or skill, not in any of the shops I've ever been in anyway. It would probably be a good guess that the Desmowhatever Itscalled requires both skill and experience in spades.

Fantastic thread and great choice of bike(s)!

Please go steady on them. It's still pretty cold out there and it's very easy to make mistakes. I rode for several years and was a fairly quick road rider but on more than one occassion ended up on my arse.

Looking forward to further updates.

Even better that the 1199S is probably gruntier and madder than the Desmo which is now showing its age compared to the newest models.
