Certainly do Loon old chap biglaugh...well at least when I took it up past 10k revs this morning!
Which is why I'm baffled. Why would you want a Desmo? I know they're expensive but there are better bikes about now, like the one you've got.
It's for two reasons; 1.) A Desmo will take me to the end (at least for now!) of the biking journey I took up in November and ultimately why I I wanted to take up biking in the first place and 2.) I'm sure there are better bikes (or at least peoples opinions of a better bike) out there, but it's just like cars - when I had a Mk1 Lotus Cortina I thought it was the best thing in the world - there were better cars out there, but I loved the thing - just like I'll love a Desmo smile

Sorry Kids - have been super busy and haven't returned to PH for a while. Have been busy though - now put over 1,000 miles on the Tricolore since I've owned it.

Went down to SuperCar Sunday at Goodwood (managed to get both the bike & the GT3 RS "invited" to the infield) with Mrs Duggan in the GT3 RS and me on the bike. A 5am start out of London wasn't the best, but as we moved out to carrot-crunching territory it started to get a whole lot worse - never a good thing to see "ICE" flash up on the screen of a Panigale when you're still a relative novice when it comes to superbikes. Thankfully I think it was more the outside temperature rather than actual ice on the road, but still had me spooked confused

Some display of top-end motors there - had me thinking about a MP4 12C, but just can't part with the RS - following Mrs. Duggan out of London at dawn was such a great memory - I think the RS Orange looks even better with that little light biggrin

Not only good cars - saw (in the flesh) my first Desmo angel Had a chat to the owner about the bike - he's owned it from new and has put only around 1,000 miles on it! But did say they're "peanuts" to keep in good health (glad Mrs Duggan was in ear-shot for that biggrin).

Got the rear pegs taken off the Tricolore also - driving it back through rush-hour London today was something else - how to Addison-Lee drivers ever pass a sight test? mad

Ace Cafe tomorrow for Italian Car & Bike day & then off to Silverstone for the HSCC - come and say hello if you're around biggrin

So the search continues - does anyone have any leads on a good, well-looked after Desmo?

P.S.

Few photos from the longest road-trip I've done of the Tricolore to date - went off to the LeMans Classic at the weekend.

Stunning ride down there in excellent weather (Thursday), but crazy times on the way back yesterday - torrential rain for virtually all of the journey in France....

Start of the journey at the Eurotunnel - first time I've taken a bike on, but very easy:

At the camp-site and bike resting:

Supermarket shop (excuse the bum-bag - can't carry anything on that bike):

A few Gendarmerie pitched up on the camp-site and a first I thought I was in for trouble (forgot my licence..), but turned out to be bike nuts! "Zis is your first bike!!":

Got totally soaked on the journey back - learnt a lot on how to ride the bike in the wet:

Thanks for all of the comments gents. Love taking road trips in the cars, but with biking it's a totally different experience - with the wet weather on Sunday there was a real feel of comradeship with every biker I met!

Just love the bike now - have totally bonded with it and will definitely be a keeper - have put just under 2k miles on it in 4 months smile

Haven't updated the thread for a while so thought I'd add a few photos.

Have held back on the idea of getting a Desmo ontop of the Tricolore as I just couldn't get sensible quotes for insurance (for some reason having under one years experience seems to give insurers the willies!), so decided to hold off on the purchase for a year or so and hopefully this will pull the premiums in.

Good news is that my first years renewal is now done and my premium on the Tricolore is now reduced by 2/3's biggrin Crazy!

So with a winter with no riding and a full scale garage build underway, I first put the GT3 RS into storage thinking I'd get it out once the garage is built & spring was on it's way. Winter months are long and a plan was hatched - out with the old and in with the new - hellow McLaren tongue out

Crazy car & something that is nearly as fast as the Panigale - can't wait to get both of them out to play in 2015! Wheeled the bike out of the study this morning and started it up for the first time in a few months - started first time - and can't wait to get it out for a blast tomorrow morning...

New Motor & bike now in it's new home:

So I thought I'd check in a see if there are any comments on the photos I posted up on Saturday and I arrive at a thread even chat roulette would have deleted biggrin

So back on topic! Thanks for all of the postive comments and questions.

So why the McLaren over a 458 or similar & how is it different from the GT3RS? I went for the Macca as it’s just so much more of a car for the money and feels much more modern – carbon tub, trick hydraulic independent suspension, brake-steer, rocket 616 bhp motor & it’s delivery through the revs, pre-cog, launch control & those doors – I could go on! It’s also beautifully simple inside (very much like the RS) and hence I think the interior and exterior will age well. I’ve also had a Ferrari before (360 Challenge Stradale), so have been-there-done-that so to speak. Oh and it’s also a McLaren biggrin – something I’ve dreamed of owning since I was a kid and saw the F1 launch in car mags.

Compared to the RS, it’s in a different league of performance. The RS would do 0-60mph in just over 4secs and 100mph in 8.5 secs – the 12C does it in just over 3 secs and 6 to 100mph – so just about the fastest thing I’ve ever driven. It’s also clever in the way you can switch settings across the engine and ride controls – all very simple and it can go from a true comfortable GT, into a taught racer with the flick of a toggle switch. The sound it makes is something else as well – even at low rev’s there’s a high pitched whistle from the turbos that belies the tune of the engine. I’m still obviously in the honeymoon period with the car, but it’s a huge amount of development and presence for an additional £30k over the RS – really has the aura of a supercar that the RS didn’t.

As for insurance on the Desmo comments & being able to afford it - it's the old saying that to make a small fortune, start with a large one smile - need to make sure you look after the pounds. The Tricolore cost just over £2k to insure for a year with zero riding experience and no-claims - a lot of money, but having done the reseach I new that it would come down significantly after you get a year under your belt - and it has. The Desmo insurance just didn't do that and held steady - I know I can shop around an improve it substantially after I get a couple of years experience as I have a mate who has one - but I'm not going to sit at £5k p.a for a couple of years to achieve that. Can "afford" to wait!

Cheers.

Now back to banana milkshakes & loose womensleep

So go on, what is your line of business? It can't be that secret, surely.
Hate to say it, but lottery win springs to mind. The people I know who buy these sorts of cars tend to be fairly quiet, whilst the cars are loud, they aren't.

If it is a lottery win, then well done. I'd love one!
Yes - couldn't possibly be due to talent (cough!), hard work and a little bit of luck - gotta be a lottery wintongue out

Bit boring really - I work in the city.

Have been properly under the pump over the last few weeks, but have come back to the thread to post a few photos.

Weather has been rubbish for Good Friday, so thought I'd shuffle around the garage after I was forced to go shopping with Mrs Duggan this morning.

...but I’m out on the Panigale tomorrow & can’t wait!! Weather should be cracking for the weekend!

+ will make sure I take a few photos over the weekend around & about and include a knotted jumper biggrin

Below are a few pics - If I'm honest I think the Ducati is a more beautiful thing than the Macca:

I think Mrs Duggan would section me if I told her I was spending £140k on a bike smile

I've just never been a fan of the Honda, despite what MM has managed to do on it in 2014 (and a few flashes of brilliance in 2015)

I did get Superbike mag on the weekend, mainly because they had an article on the H2 on the road - then they had a feature on this:

.....I spent a good 5 mins just looking at it - just fantastic! Must resist, must resist.....

Have you taken it out of rain mode yet? (Not a dig, genuine question as I remember reading you hadn't for a while).
Only had it in rain mode for a few months when I brought it/started putting miles on it & obviously started getting experience. Then quickly onto Sport and a few trips in Race (more on longer runs, as it feels quite nervous at low speeds on that setting).

The only time I've had it back in Wet recently, was when I got caught out in the rain out in Bucks and to be honest it felt a little sluggish.

The only thing with the bike is telling myself everytime I get on it that I must take it easy & am still learning....

So with Mrs Duggan out on a girls Christmas lunch, I had the chance to dust the Tricolore off and take it out for a spin. Also thought I'd take a few picks of the latest addtion to the garage/my head - a brand spanking new Lotus Elise 220 Cup and an AGV tartaruga helmet (have been after one for ages!).

Great ride out this morning (if a little cold & windy) and the Tricolore now has just under 5,500 miles on it - a quiet year this year, but plan to get out on it much more in 2016.

Still cannot get over how clean your garage is, how do you manage to keep all the leaves out.

I do have a question for you, your Dainese gloves you are wearing are they the Full Metal D1's and are they any good !
Keeping it clean is a full time job biggrin I did go for a polished concrete floor, but not really happy with it so aiming to get it tiled with matching anthracite, but will have to wait until the Macca/Lotus are in for a service early next year.

The gloves are Full Metal D1's - have had them ever since I started to learn to ride and they're outstanding - after 2 years now they're like new - really recommend them.

Good on you for doing this, it's what we all want to do, but our heads tell us not too
On a slightly lower budgetted scale, I was dead set on an 899 Panigale as my first bike having passed my test just this Oct
I went to see a few, and spoke with a few biker mates, and decided a more sensible intro to supersports bikes would be a current shape ZX6R 636.
However, the cold weather and greasy roads, coupled with leaf covered corners made me quickly realise how fast you can get into trouble. I can ride the bike ok, but didn't fancy learning the floor the hard way, so bought a Triumph 800 Tiger to keep me going through the winter, and to get my bike experience up.
As bizarre as it seems, covering around 1000 miles on the tiger has made me ride the ZX6R lots better as everything that happens on the limit on the tiger, happens a lot more slowly are at a rate that's easier to understand and control
I'll get myself a 899 or possibly 959 early next year
Anyway, enjoy the bike and keep the shiny side up.. Oh yeah, and not like you need to hear it, but just be bloody careful if you're trying to find the limits on that 1199 in this weather on cold tyres !
Graeme - I've never been the sensible type - that's my problem. I'm also much more of a fair weather biker (the shame), but have been caught out in torrential rain a few times and it really does make you respect the bike. And also great to hear from another new rider - I still kick mySelf for not getting into biking sooner biggrin
