There were some guys on bicycles laughing at them at the start until they found out they were planning to do it in a week, the cyclists were aiming for 2 weeks!

Anyway - I still wouldn't fancy sitting on a PC50 for that long - keep us posted!

How are you going to average 30mph if it has a top speed of 30mph?

I appreciate the endurance aspect, having ridden my Honda SS50 from Chester to Cardiff back in the 70s. Not so different as I suspect the head gasket was on the way out.

Update

Well today's test went well, we did about 90 miles up to the white horse, there are some pretty steep hills around there which really tested the peds and us, on a couple of the really big ones we had to get off and push haha.
My grandad has put an exhaust off a pit bike onto his and it makes such a difference, his is about 5mph faster than mine and my dads it pulled up the hills so much better too, while me and my dad were pushing he cruised passed us haha.

On the way back from the white horse near haws I think it was called my dad ran out of petrol, while waiting at the side of the road wondering what the hell we was going to do as we was miles away from any petrol station an old bloke came out for a chat to see what was up, we told him where we had been and what we was doing and that we had ran out of petrol, with that he went off and brought out a jerry can, filled us up and sent us on our way.

I did test out the time lapse but it was crap, I had it on a long pole fastened to my bike so the camera was up high over my head, this caused far too many vibrations and all of the pictures came out blury so we will have to re think that one, also the gopro battery's are rubbish so we also need to sort out a way of charging it.

All in all it was a right laugh and we can't wait to do the long trip.

Here's a couple of photos of us

Have fun. Sounds like an epic adventure.

I once (1969) went from Bournemouth to Burnley 250 miles non stop at 35mph on my Honda 90 riding through the night...

(Ran out of petrol near Stoke at 6am and rolled all the way down a long hill straight into a petrol station which was just opening)

biggrin

Evening all

Sorry I haven't updated this for a while I've been a bit busy with Christmas etc.

Chris has made a bit of progress with his ped

This is how it was when he bought it... Little tatty so he wanted to make it look like new ready for the trip.

We then stripped the bike one night and he sent it off to be sand blasted so I could get it powder coated at work

He decided to go for an orange and white bike so off it went to be coated

This is where he is at now with the bike..... A long way to go before it's back on the road, the orange and white does look really good though.

That's about it for now.

I'll keep you all updated as the ped gets built up

A huge thank you to everyone that has helped us by sponsoring us it means a lot

I managed to miss the November update. Will be great fun.

There are some that have done this on C90s on the C90club.co.uk forum.

One thing to note about whacking a pit bike exhaust on there is that with the C90s certainly, they can run really lean if you put an open pipe straight on. I'd imagine also that they have a very small oil capacity, and prolonged flat out running can complete destroy the oil grade or cause it to burn off if gets to hot and thin. It might be worth doing a tactical oil change half way through the trip and I'd definitely keep an eye on the oil level.

Ah is there? ill check that website out and have a look at what routes they did.

Funny you should mention that about the exhaust, after doing the small trip up to the white horse my grandad (the one with the pit bike exhaust)checked the oil levels and his was pretty much empty so it must have burnt it all during the day with that in mind we have decided to scrap using the bigger exhaust so we don't end up blowing the bikes up.

We have got a few different sprockets to try out to see what is best for hill climbing and flat roads.

Another thing my dad likes to do is run out of petrol.... we went for a very short ride on Sunday to test his against mine as his was a lot slower on the straights, he’s messed with the timing and some other bits and its now about the same speed as mine... about 3 miles away from he ran out of petrol.... not happy as there was one pretty big hill we needed to get up and then It’s downhill all the way home, i sent him off on my ped to get some petrol while i started peddling up the hill..... i got about half way up and was about to stop because i was dying and some walkers started to appear in view.... obviously you can’t stop when someone is watching so i carried on passed them saying hello as calmly as i could trying not to look too out of breath manning it like you do, they finally went out of sight and i was about to stop for a rest and more bloody walkers appeared... i can’t stop now so i carried on to the top of the hill where i could finally rest while freewheeling downhill to the next straight, i peddled for a bit more getting slowly worse and worse and about to faint out from exhaustion, about to stop again and I meet more people so again I carried on all the way back home…. Just as I turn into my road I meet my dad laughing his head off on my ped with the petrol can on the back… he’d been in for a cuppa and a chat to his neighbour while im peddling away like a mad man…………. Next time he can peddle his own bloody ped while I go and get petrol haha

Haha -first class!

The air cooled motors get very hot with prolonged full throttle cooking the oil as I said. Some of the long distance guys rig up an oil cooler that completely solves the problem by increasing capacity and adding cooling, or you can just drop the oil a couple of times on the trip. The open pipes seem to exacerbate the issue as well as burn the exhaust valve out, unless you rejet the carb.

Regarding fuel, there was a LeJoG in 24 hours on the C90 forum, where a guy rigged up a jerry can on a welded frame with a pipe and valve into the tank so he could effectively carry 5 gallons of fuel and do 500 miles without refuelling.
