Does anyone have a post '10 ybr? The standard bulb is pretty poor and I'm looking to upgrade if possible. I've read counter stories of upgrading the wattage from the standard 35w to 55w. Any experiences on here?

It should be fine with a 55w, 35w bulbs are pretty crap once out of town.

Not a YBR but I put a higher wattage bulb on my bike once, it promptly over heated the lens and the glass cracked.

Expensive mistake so I now leave in whatever the manufacturers recommended bulb is on the ground they have a bigger R&D budget than I do.

I'm considering put one of these on as an alternative and running directly to the battery and separate switch. Would I need to fit a fuse? The power seems quite low.

Yes, because if there's a short circuit, the current will not be so low anymore and you'll fry the battery and possibly the whole bike.

ok good point, thinking of using 6a wire and fuse, would this be suitable?

Depends on how you want to run them. 2 lights? Both seperarate? One linked to the lights? Both linked to the lights? One with low beam one with high?

No just one single light wired (the advert is in pairs but I think you can buy individually)to its own switch and directly to the battery. I don't want to splice into the existing circuit.

But that would be by far the easier option. Buy two scotchlok connectors and splice into the main beam or low beam wiring, whichever you prefer. That way, no need for switches and it's already fused.

I'm unsure if the wiring could take another 10 watts though, plus I'd only want these additional lights on for unlit roads so not on all the time.

They've rated at 0.66 amps, so will be no problem. But if you wire it from the headlights, you can also include a switch to turn off when not needed.

Ok, as the poor headlight on the YBR seems to generate a number of threads across numerous forums I thought I'd update this for others' reference.

Despite the good advice above, I decided to keep my upgrade separate from the existing wiring on the bike.

I have used two led spot lights (cheaper ones than the ones linked above) and wired, via a switch and fuse, directly to the battery. The YBR doesn't have many places to mount additional lights, so I used extra brackets normally used to mount a primary round headlight.

Standard dipped beam

Standard high beam

Standard dipped beam + new LED spots (I have since angled them down a bit)

Standard high beam + new LED spots (I have since angled them down a bit)

They look rather neat, do they actually work well?

I'll test them this evening, weather depending. Initial tests in the semi-dark garage suggest they are significantly brighter than both the standard dipped and high beams. I'll have to be careful to ensure they are directed safely.

Looks good! Could you post up a pic of the whole bike? I had one of these as my first bike and always wanted to put lights like this and a screen on it!

It isn't a good look, purely for practicalities. My young children refer to it as the happy shopper.

You've done a nice job of that mate, fair play to you...noted your links, my Dad may well want to do the same to his YBR.

I could be tempted as well for winter traveling at night.
