Seemed to be a lot of time, experts and money thrown at this for a mediocre result, when he could of just done this instead with better results??................

How is a new world record a "mediocre result"? crashley said:
Is it only me that thinks he cheated a bit, having a plane fabricated to help the bike plane? I know it was technically allowed in the rules but still...
isnt that what motorsport is all about? interpreting the rules and trying to find an advantage you can make somewhere Rat_Fink_67 said:

There is indeed. Do you remember the landspeed record thread on here a while back?! bogie said:

In this case there wasn't even any ambiguity in the rules, they stuck to the letter of them.srob said:

No I don't think I read that. Was it relevant to Guys hydroplane attempt? The rules explicitly allowed the fitting of planes, and they fitted one. I don't really see how that can be considered cheating. The bike clearly wasn't capable of hydroplaning without it.

Not really. It was about the TV program that followed the chaps who tried to break various obscure bike landspeed records at Daytona. The rules explicitly allowed the fitting of planes, and they fitted one. I don't really see how that can be considered cheating. The bike clearly wasn't capable of hydroplaning without it.
There was comments about fat old men 'only' being able to do Xmph on an old Indian etc, when their ZX-RRSP would do more than that out of the crate.
Just seemed a similar trend happening here.

I wouldn't fancy owning that bike after!
I thought it was quite a good advert for Suzuki to be honest. It spent best part of two hours at the bottom of a 30m lake and it didn't appear to take an awful lot to get it going.http://youtu.be/12upW3p3mUg

Nothing miserable about a different opinion is there? I don't suppose they would of had 45 mins worth of film to show had he just got on a bike and rode it across a lake as per my link above though.bogie said:

In this case there wasn't even any ambiguity in the rules, they stuck to the letter of them. And of course nothing wrong with making the most of the rules.
