Looks fun in reverse.

You definitely don't need a 1000cc to be even at the sharp end of the fast group. I've seen 125s in the top half of the fast group. And super motos. All sorts.

Out brake me at the start. Who was the guy on the black GSX-R? He seemed to be passing everyone by the last session.

Do you reckon you need a 1,000cc to keep up in inters/advanced?
Who outbraked you?

Don't think you need a 1000 no, knockhill is more about the low sped technical stuff.

Not a lot passed me all day, 2 bikes i think. It was scary how many people there in full track prep'd bikes that were very slow.

Try riding a 600 around knockhill though. A lot of the track bikes were 600’s so you’re going to past them on the straight very few people will overtake in the corners in novice as where in inters they bloody will, there was a track nsr 400 out there and that guy was mullering people in the corners. Me and prolapse watched from the hairpin for a few sessions.

The inters is mainly made up of litre bikes, I was stuck behind a few for laps on end in the corners right up their chuff, I’d come out on to the straights with more speed pull level then they would fk off in front only to start it all over again for another lap.

Id maybe give it another novice section then move up if you find it too slow Davie especially if it’s the right way around, I normally run mid to top pack (on a good day for me and a st day for everyone else) in the inters in the normal direction, Saturday I was in the bottom section whilst I was learning the track, there was only about 5 or 6 other riders slower than me, that said speaking to a few, a lot had done a few session in reverse direction and knew the track. But do you really want to learn a new track whilst being flung into inters after 45 minutes track time.

NSR was novice group wasn't he?

Plenty of big bikes overtaking on the straights then making a hash of it and being caught up again.

Annoyed the st out of me last I was at Knobhill. I can't wait until I have the bks to overtake on the bends.

Aye, i've decided to give the novice another go next time as it will be the right way round.

The wee NSR was in novice and was very confident in the corners. We had a wee play then he went off after locking his back wheel. I have a vid of that somewhere.

Are there any other track days at Knockhill other than the ones organised by themselves? I.e. NoLimits or Focused Events organising one? I fancy going to do one but don't really fancy open pitlane as my first one. Looks difficult to learn so would rather go in groups.

With the exception of newbie nights and those by Ducati and BMW, it's all groups I think George.

I'm not sure anyone else organises them though.

ETA: That is to say "I don't know" not "no one does".

I looked on the website and it says the ones on the 4th of August and 15th of September are open pit lane. Only other ones in between are just track mornings or nights - not worth the 4 hour trip for me to do a morning/evening.

When are the next BMW or Ducati ones? Are they listed anywhere?

I didn't realise there were that many, I guess you'll struggle for sessions with the dates.

The last Ducati was open session.

I can't find the link for BMW mottorad in Dalkeith.

Bmw, do a big weekend one at the start of the season but that's passed. The only other days they do are BMW only nights, 2 hour open pit, no use to you.

Ducati also do nights, mainly a Friday night, again 2 hour open pit lane, not worth your trek up as you only really get 40-60 minutes track time again no use.

I've moved away from doing these "track days" 5 of the 8 "track days" ive had have been these 2 hour open sessions or a morning, you cant really learn the track in that time or progress much. The 3 full day ones I've had I learned so much more and tend to have less "rude" riding as people aren't in as much of a rush if they have all day.

The only real session one coming up is the Niall Mackenzie day in a week or so, that's the reverse direction and its a novice/inters or inters/advance going out every 20 minutes. It is dear for what it is though, £225 is too steep IMO but if you fancy it PM and I can give you a code for 10 per cent off.

Failing that you will need to book up an open pit lane day, again I tend to avoid these, I'm no where near some of the guys in the advanced group yet and get frustrated behind some novices. There really is too much of a variety on a track some are doing in 54 seconds whilst others 1:14. Also again, its £170-190 for the day, which to be honest I don't think knockhill is worth but hey its the only circuit for miles.

I think there is 2 "sessions" days left this year, a bargain at like £95 but in September when it's a bit hit or miss. For some reason they don't run these as often as the open pit lane, which is a shame because I would be up much more often for these, 20 minutes on then a 40 minute gap is just right for me.

I found the reverse a bh to learn, the normal way wasn't so bad but the track is meant to be ran that way. After 4 sessions I just felt like I was starting to get know it, though some like Davie had it mastered by then.

I looked at the sessioned day in September but am racing at Mallory that weekend. I might do the open pitlane on the 4th of August then. Don't want to do reverse circuit as the main reason I'm going is for the first corner!

Is anyone from here booked on to that day?

I didn't lock my wheel at all. Well actually once into the hairpin cos i was being a bit too ambitious and changed down to first.

Jack in that video, I started braking way earlier than he did. It did annoy me on the straight when you'd be right behind someone, pin it early to try get past on the straight and they either pull away or you can't get past (though that didn't happen often for me to be fair! haha). I found the easiest place to overtake was just before clark, as most folk in Novice seemed to hang left.

Agree about all the track bikes. There were some serious bikes there (the 1199 S and the 2 track S1000RR off the top of my head).

Whereas I rode my bike up from Edinburgh with the missus on the back, dropped the tyre pressure a bit and went out on track. I wasn't so emotionally attached to this bike before, but it's flawless reliability (especially at double the miles of Fred's ex-bike) has made it really grow on me.

As long as you had fun that's the main thing. Its not about how fast you went or how many people you passed its about how much fun you had.

i'm just playing at it just now and for a guy on a budget that's been riding only a few years, only done a few trackdays and on a stock bike with road tyres im having a hoot, I'm by no means the quickest out there, but im progressing each time and learning more.

its only funds that prohibit me from going more and progressing as id like.
