A picture a day....biker banter (Vol 3)
Discussion
What a day! First proper ride out on the R today, and managed to burn through 3 tanks of Shell's VPower today. After months off a sportsbike, it was just fantastic to get properly intimate again with <160kg + loadsaloadsa power! The engine is just fantastic - it's like a giant elastic band that just fires huge dollops of big twin twist and power with zero resistance, revving harder and faster than ever before. It' s relentless drug that keeps you grinning with equal yelps of joy and fear. I can say that the R is really properly fast - too fast for English roads - and in 2nd and 3rd gear she's just devastating in give-and-take riding. My son snapped this pic today -

Look lovely mate, hope you've been having great fun on it... Still looking fab!
At times I certainly miss it! Strangely it was far more confidence inspiring than the Daytona which came as a surprise - I guess I knew it very well though, and it was so thrashable in comparison... some track tuition required I think...
Been having a great time, certainly doesn't hang around the twisty lanes. At times I certainly miss it! Got some as new calipers coming soon, they are going to be painted gold to match the rear, DID gold chain too.
I keep eyeing up the 675R, but I can't get anything until next summer

I know, for its age it handles very well in my opinion, and was so rewarding to ride well. Got some as new calipers coming soon, they are going to be painted gold to match the rear, DID gold chain too.

That's good, I always intended to strip the front calipers and rebuild with a lick of gold paint, just never got around to it. Perhaps new calipers will help to give more feel, and a firmer lever. New chain will look smart too, the one on there I didn't fit long ago at all, but it's monkey metal and was looking a bit st despite copious lube over the winter... Came with the bike though so couldn't complain.

You weren't on the M40 yesterday were you? Where they closed it between junction 5 and 4, I was in the car with the family waiting for it to re open and the notice came by a Ducati roaring down the open motorway towards us. Sounded great! Chipchap said:

Wish I'd brought my winter gloves as it was a bit chilly this morning, but great to be riding to work again
What a way to get to work!I got myself some new gloves today. I have some Spidi STRs that are nice, but on longer rides the knuckle protection on the little finger of the left hand presses a bit and gives me a sore finger - what a fanny I am, I know! They are great gloves but I've loved the look of Furygan's gloves since I first saw them, so I found myself looking at some today. It was a toss up between the Furygans and some Knox Handroids, and as cool as the Knox gloves are, I worried about the boa lacing mechanism breaking, and the Furygans just edged it on comfort. So I took the plunge, paid £90 for the pair of Furygan AFS-18s. These have some really cool design features, like the hard plaques on the heels of the hands, the little finger armour is on the side of the finger rather than the top, the wrist armour panel is really substantial (and has a panther on it). The venting on the top of the hand has mesh grille underneath it - these aren't exactly wet or cold weather gloves, as that will leak like a sieve!
