Saturday March 4th 2004 outside Paul25's old flat, the day that we picked our brand new 2004 R1's up, mine is the Lava red his being the Blue
Lovely, serious machines those R1s.I've just been out for a quick 90 minute ride, I thought I'd ride down to High Force waterfall but only made it halfway before it started raining, so I turned back to get some other decent roads in. I stopped by Derwent reservoir hoping to get a photo of my bike by the water, but the road to the lake is gated with a sign saying it would be closed at 08:15, and it was 08:05 when I got there, so I didn't risk getting locked in. In the end, the only photo I got was while refuelling just before getting home. While I was filling up, a McLaren MP4-12C Spyder drove past, it sounded ace for a car, and particularly good for a turbocharged car.

I always think that turbo cars sound awesome, far more brutal on song than a supercharged car.
Hate dump valves though!
I love a good supercharged V8, but sometimes turbos can really kill the sound of an engine, mostly by replacing a good NA induction bark with a flat, sucking hoover noise, and the exhaust can sound flat and lifeless too. There are plenty of turbo cars out there with nice sounds though, such as the McLaren, Nissan Skylines of old, RUFs etc. Hate dump valves though!

Went into BMW today thinking about what bike to get the beginning of next year after my license unrestricts in December. Do people consider the BMW F800GT an old mans bike? It seemed a good bike but I can't get over it being a bit old manish?
I had an F800GT for the day on Thursday when mine went in for a service. Absolutely hated it. Okay the looks are marmite, the handling and brakes are pretty good. But the engine sounds like someone throwing rocks into a bath and the gearbox was like putting your foot in a bucket of lego. The fuel tank is under the bike somewhere, so what's in front of you is just plastic ... cheap, flimsy, wobbly plastic. Hard seat, very gutless, lots of mismatched parts bin special bits and bobs. Wouldn't swap it for my Fazer8 in a month of Sundays ... sorry. But, recommend you ride one first, make your own mind up.

Renault 5 1.4?
Stick a turbo on it, whoop!
Same with Renault 9/11 turbo, Mazda 323 turbo, Suzuki Swift etc.
Now they are everywhere especially on diesels. Mine has two!

Phone picture from this evening, one of my favourite stop off points before hitting the lanes again, oh and me being childish
I know a lot of people were interested in buying mine, so here are some convenient (crap) pictures of my buddies with 70+ bhp apparently, 1994 with about 30k miles, seat cowl and Yoshi system amongst other things - he wants to sell it and is only asking £1k, be very very nice after a bit of a tart up. He's making me miss mine now!

No better place to learn the skills required than the simple mechanical stuff mate!
I've not seen his ZXR for a while, but it was what inspired me to get one. I think it could do with a bit of rejuvenation cosmetically, but runs and rides well as far as I know, and apparently has a quite breathed on engine (but no dyno printouts remain it seems) yet he's never had any engine reliability issues.
If anyone is interested, please drop me an email and I can put you in touch.
