The choice is very open, so long at the total capacity is 600cc or less. The snow mobile engine was imported from Norway I think. No idea what the engine produced originally (we've had it four year and it's my second year on the team), but with the restrictor before tuning it was about 30hp. The restrictor is upstream of the turbo (rules!!) and to be honest I have no idea how much gain we're getting from it, but the engine guys assure me it's working. The great thing about a CVT (continually varying transmission) is that we can run the engine at a constant peak rpm, meaning no turbo lag, which would be substantial with the intake configuration I suspect. The tracks are extremely tight too, with lots of direction changes, so te CVT also make the at very drivable by removing the need to change gear manually. Down side is the cvt also has a lag when initially spooling up, so you have to keep on the power to avoid a long wait out of the bends. On the gas and the brakes at the same time is an odd feeling.

That is super cool!!

Way back when i used to build some hairy turbo's motors for my Hillclimber. Ended up with 400bhp from a 1970's VAG 8 Valve motor.
Looking at your set up i'd love to see what the various temps and pressures are around the system, especially as i guess you're on high boost most of thetime due to the CVT box. I'd wager there's a few improvements to be had in your layout wink
Love stuff like this, brilliant

Some things just don't work. Look at the wheelbase of the thing!!
Can you imagine that in the dirt, especially with the 487kgs of Ducati 2v motor to lug around. If it falls over, set it alight, you won't be picking it up....

To be fair it is a hillclimber so long wheelbase is probably good, more info here; http://www.duccutters.com/JasonBlackford-916hillcl...

Ahhh, that does make a difference. Then instead of using a stty 916 he should have a 10/1198. Much more power and more than 20kg lighter.

I'm all ears if you've got suggestions! Glad you like it. Building and racing it with the team is one of he most worthwhile things I think I've ever done. Can't get enough. Which is a problem as it distracts form work a fair bit. hehe
