First time going up to Hartside cafe, last time I went up that way it was snowing so I turned back near Alston. It was deserted at the top, apart from two IAM-looking types.
The Hartside pass was not much fun, the road surface was jet black, fresh tarmac and it looked like it was melting in the heat, in between that, the pheasants, rabbits and sheep in the road I didn't feel all that confident. That said, the road flows better on the way back towards Hexham, so the return leg was quicker and smoother.
I stopped off at Langley castle for a few photos
Then it was off home. While it's not my favourite road in the area, but it's pretty tight and often you can't get a good look at the road ahead, lots of blind corners, so it's not exactly a flat out stretch, but the scenery makes it worth a ride. I can't comment on the quality of the cakes from the Hartside Top cafe, which I'd heard were nice, as the place was shut.
I don't suppose the Suzuki and Ewan/Charlie bike were riding near Canterbury Kent Thursday morning were you? Oakley Bike Festival today, perfect day for it and lots of interesting bikes & kit to look at, plenty of food , drink and a couple of bands.
Mike Hailwoods son bought along one of his bikes, a 500cc Honda, what a sound, they fired up Caporossi's Desmo's straight after but the old Honda was far, far louder..The lids was the last Mike rode a GP in and has sat in the bag since 1980..
Alos had a chat with fellow LC enthusiast Niall Mackenzie ...top bloke..
It continues until late thsi evening, so if your up for it, you could still go along.
Sparton 500cc, triple 2 stroke...
1949 MV..

If you have to "look for it / Spot the PH sticker" isn't that missing the point?
Awesome little bike, I really do like those....how are you getting on with it? done many miles yet?
It's just next to the bolt on the red fairing. It's red so it blends in. I like subtle changes. You'd spot it if you were looking at the bike in person. Awesome little bike, I really do like those....how are you getting on with it? done many miles yet?
It's a fantastic bike. I love it! It couldn't be more different to the big bikes. I've put about 1400 miles on it in the last 3 months. I commute through town and it's perfect for filtering in traffic. I can nip through gaps were the big bikes have to stop. It's also great on fuel. £5 sees 120 miles! I can cruise on flat roads at 65mph comfortably. All round a superb bike and it's a perfect partner to a big bike.
