Went up to Thunder in the Glens on Saturday. I gather there was more than 1500 bikes on the ride-out - mostly Harleys. So plenty of cowboys, but only one Indian wink

Added some (ever so slightly gay) rim tape to the S1000R

So after about a decade of driving the Ring in anger, I finally decided to ride the Ring for the first time at one of the Bike-only TF days today. To say it was slippy was a huge understatement! BMW had rented out the Ring for a private trackday and laid down a nice layer of rubber for the bikes... except that the heavens poured in the late afternoon just before the bike TF. Fantastic frown Anyway, I earned my Ring sticker and had the bonus of meeting up with probably the best biker to show the way around - Andy Carlisle. Did a lap following him around, and finished a top day with another steak at the Pistenklause.

It was a bit damp to say the least...

Following Andy into the Foxhole

Through the Karussell

Coming into Brunnchen

Pflanzgarten

Dottinger Hohe straight

I like the rim tape boxedin - suits your S1000R in my opinion, and on my old ZXR400 I felt the black tape really set the green wheels off, and looked worse without, but I don't think my Daytona suits/needs it personally.

You would have thought one of the manufacturers would have done a back door type sponsorship deal with Andy by now. 10 year old home-fettled R1 should be beatable by something more modern, shouldn't it?

My Tiger 1050 is in for an MOT and service, so Jack Lilley have lent me an 800XC. Impressive wee beastie. To start with I thought it was too vanilla and soulless, then I built confidence in using the engine and handling and really like it!

As I'm pretty quiet at work, I've spent the whole morning "researching" specs and finance options. Somebody please give me a few reasons not to ask for a trade-in price when I go to pick mine up later.......

Errr. You already own a bike. Just spent money on it. It's almost Autumn and all that follows that. Debt is spending money you haven't even earned yet. Beelzebub. They're not that much different. You can go out on demos 3 or 4 times a year. End of the world is nigh. Etc etc

yes yes yes all good points but:

- it's shiney
- it's got a gear position indicator
- it has a long accessories list I can browse
- the Mrs doesn't know anything about it (yet)!

I've been in exactly the same situation with precisely the same combination of bikes.
I reckon the lack of oomph with the 800 would start to wear pretty thin pretty quick.

Depends on how quick he is elsewhere. A one trick pony is not enough for a sponsor methinks. If Andy can repeat his level of performance at the Ring at the TT (plus some more) to challenge the likes of MD/McPint/Anstey/et al, then he might be in with a shot. Different level...
