A picture a day....biker banter (Vol 3)

I've been in exactly the same situation with precisely the same combination of bikes.
I reckon the lack of oomph with the 800 would start to wear pretty thin pretty quick.
Yes I think you're right...... which brings me to the Tiger 1215 Explorer, it has the grunt but is too big and too expensive. Hence we are back to the Tiger 1050 Sport. Which is pretty much where we started! I have a Remus Powercone on mine, so it's already a snorty-poppy-pop-bang kinda bike. I reckon the lack of oomph with the 800 would start to wear pretty thin pretty quick.
To top it all, mine curently only gets used about once a fortnight for commuting 14 miles each away....which is almost as quick by push bike!

I can't figure out why they didn't produce an XC/Explorer with the 1050 lump in it. Seems very strange that Triumph's "Ewan&Thingy" range has the 1050 stuck in the middle in the guise of the Tarmac-happy Tiger Sport

You would have thought one of the manufacturers would have done a back door type sponsorship deal with Andy by now. 10 year old home-fettled R1 should be beatable by something more modern, shouldn't it?
Depends on how quick he is elsewhere. A one trick pony is not enough for a sponsor methinks. If Andy can repeat his level of performance at the Ring at the TT (plus some more) to challenge the likes of MD/McPint/Anstey/et al, then he might be in with a shot. Different level...George29 said:
Ermmmmmmm, not to burst your bubble, but I hope that's not one of the bikes that they used on a TD when I was there. They managed to smash three up I. The morning and. Y afternoon and botched one back together using bits from the others. LoonR1 said:

I don't mind if it's been crashed. It's a race bike. I'm bound to crash it at some point. As long as it's been repaired properly after every crash (which with Haribo racing it will have been) then I'm happy. All I know is the bike is in immaculate condition as it's currently owned by my mate.

I hear you... but... going fast around the Ring has relatively very little to do with the machinery. ALL of the current litre bikes can go equally quick once the suspension has been dialed in. Speed here is down to the riders' knowledge of the Ring, his bks, luck of the prevailing traffic, and luck of the weather plus what event was just previous (how grippy. If a manufacturer were to lay claim to 'the fastest bike around the Ring', I don't think many people would give it credence. And Andy proves exactly this point - on his home grown and repaired 10yo R1...
I hear you hearing me! Did the Ring for a dozen years so understand circuit knowledge and all the other factors mentioned (most of which could be applied to TT as well btw). I just think that publicity vs outlay would be too tempting not to loan him a bike.I keep thinking of BMW. No point entering £50m a year war in MotoGP where Yamaha and Honda already raising thr bar too high. Failed at WSB despite an inappropriate budget for that class. BSB is fairly country specific obviously. TT translates across the Superbike riding world and Dunlop's win would have been pocket change. The Ring thing wouldn't quite be the same but has awesome crossover potential with car world (who might want a bike etc) and would barely register on expenses of some their execs.
