That's it getting a bit chilly and leafy for riding about, so brought Nelli indoors for the Winter

Is that an Italian equivalent of our "Trade or Garage Plate" on there ?

I still have a mad hankering for a Benelli in the garage.

Sure, couple of reasons...

It's my winter bike and the panels were already a little cracked and damaged. There's no point getting them resprayed as i could do this for half the cost.

Main reason tho is that i wanted to teach myself how to work with carbon and get a decent finish, so i see these as practice panels, but with the bonus of improving the appearance of the bike as well. It's not perfect but i've learnt/figured out a ton of stuff as i've gone.

Eta, couple of fitted shots. Still need a bit of finishing/trimming but you get the idea...

It would be great if you could start a thread Trev detailing how you did this.

I have the same garage mat under my Tornado RS, though it's most often covered in tools and parts biggrin

Mines all snugged up and SORNed, using the Fireblade for now.

I got mine from carbonmods. It's very, very light and fickle in raw state, far worse than fibreglass.

The trick is to let the first tack coat sit for just under 3 hours, so you can feel your finger/glove stick, but none comes off on it. Then you lay the raw sheet so the middle contacts and work out like a decal or fablon sheet. Once it touches the tack coat it can't be moved tho, but it's a lot more turnable/malleable than vinyl for example.

One thing worth mentioning is i sprayed this panel black first. If i'd carboned onto a red panel the paint would peep through between the fibres. You can buy dye for the epoxy, but it's less of a faff to just paint it black first instead. It can be a crappy finish as long as it's keyed.

ETA another thing i learnt is when you place and shape the carbon, you put another epoxy coat over it. I made the mistake of knocking back the second epoxy layer which revealed some of the fibres a little too much, i suspect this is why some bts are lighter (sort of dusty).

When i do the next one, i'd leave the second epoxy coat to harden then build another epoxy coat over it. I'd then knock that one back lightly with a DA instead. It's all guesswork but that seemed to give a deeper, more contrasted appearance to the carbon.

New to me 1198 tucked up in the rearranged garage, The shot with the Speed 3 has my old 1999 Nankai leathers in the foreground which have gone to a new home as of Wednesday too. I used those in many EMRA events from 1999 to 2001 then they shrunk ?

Thats a shot to keep you warm inside during the middle of Winter, would have loved an 1198 alongside the SRAD too.

How are you finding the SRAD?

Yes it`s an Italian trade plate.... and there is nothing mad about wanting a Benellijester a trike maybe, but not a Benelliclap

Today I bought a winter hack, from Julian64 - thanks again for everything Julian smile

It's really dull, and everything is sloppy and loose compared to the Daytona, but it's comfy and all a bike for the winter needs to be - especially with the Givi topbox it came with. Just need to get rid of what appears to just be lots of surface rust in the tank, give it a service, and get the idle set right and we're good for winter.

Anyone whos had a Diversion before, any idea why sometimes the gear lever doesn't come to a stop in top gear? Sometimes it seems to be fine, but other times will let you essentially change into 7th 8th 9th (etc.) gears - without changing gear obviously! Is this normal? Seems like the lever just doesn't come to a stop in top gear. I assume it should based on previous bikes?

Podman [Brian ?] I have done all of 40 miles on the Suzuki. I view it as a potential investment and will only take it out for things like VJMC event or Brackley Festival etc. It is a nice example and if I use it a lot it will hurt the value and god forbid it got wet..........

Ideally I would like to find a deal to swop it for a mint Aprilia RSV-R or GSX-R 1000 K1 with a bit of cash if needed

I know what you mean, but it really does make sense, as my transport is motorcycles exclusively.

I don't have to pile miles on the Daytona when i'm actually not enjoying the miles at all - Nov-Feb is just boring for me. Also I then don't have to keep servicing the 675, or putting tyres on it, or worrying about keeping it in nice condition, cleaning it and covering it in ACF50. I'll take it out a few times a week until the grit goes down though.

Ultimately, the divvy cost me £650, has under 3k miles on it, so fingers crossed will want for little for the next couple of winters, meaning the Daytona won't be piling on the miles and getting scabby, maintaining the resale value, while the divvy is costing bugger all to run or insure. It can't depreciate a whole lot more, and I won't have to worry about it.

On top of that, I'm a minimalist guy, and would never ever have any unrequired tat on the 675 (never even a tax disk holder!) but the divvy is so dull and bland that I'm not arsed about the big eyesore topbox, and it's going to be so handy day to day really.

It'll be used in the summer too I imagine for the boring runs to the other halfs in Peterborough, when luggage on the Daytona is a problem, and the 200 mile round trip round the M25 and up the A1 is boring on either bike, and just squares the soft tyres off on the Daytona.

Rereading this post, I think i'm getting old. I need a big sticker on the Divvy topbox to tell everyone it's a hack, and i'm actually way cooler than I look.

I've done exactly the same. Bought an old vfr750 for winter riding. Park anywhere, don't need to be as surgical about cleaning it.
