I'm a lurker on here usually. I saw a lovely TZ pictured last week and thought I would add a picture of mine.
Whatever it is it's nice

It is a proper TZ - a '91 B model to be precise. Scunnylads bike is a year or two newer.
The B was the first v-twin configured TZ. The previous model was a reverse cylinder with the exhausts under the seat. As far as I know they have had power valves for a few years before my bike. Mine certainly has them.

Is that a tz replica based on a tzr? Or a proper tz like scunnylads (I assume his was a genuine tz)? Don't think gp bikes had a power valve did they?

This weekend I did some more work on my viffer - excuse my self indulgence with pics!
Coolant change - the old coolant was clean (due to low mileage)
Thermostat change.
Carbs back on after checking all of the inlet rubbers and clamps were correctly placed.
This *was* the sub air filter! And the last person to work on it had connected it to the breather hose connection on the air filter box, and the cam cover breather to the sub air filter connection on the carbs.
A new one
Breather now connected to where it should be.
Sh@t pattern air filter vs genuine Honda one..
And then I proceeded to put the tank on, after fitting a new fuel filter and connect everything up, fill her up with coolant etc. Took a while to start up as it takes a bit to fill the carbs, but started and ran a lot better and more crisply at idle than ever before, and that was before balancing the carbs and setting the idle mixture.
Pre balancing the carbs - not actually that far out (within manufacturer specs!)
And after some careful adjustment. Obviously this is a static shot and they look slightly 'out' but they're pulsating and moving all of the time. Much better though.
I then set the idle mixture with a colour tune - using the Honda 'idle drop' method works, but leaves the mixture a tiny bit lean for my liking (white tinge to the flame) rather than a nice blue. The bike now starts on the button, and idles cleanly and smoothly - it's bloody perfect!
Got the forks off it now to fix the leaks (and will get Maxton to improve the damping/springing too).

Great job, I get real satisfaction out of doing that to a bike. What is the "honda idle drop method"? I presume you just lean it off until the idle starts to drop then enrichen slightly?
Basically, yes. You keep turning all of the screws out by half a turn at a time until the idle stops increasing, then reset to 1050 or so, then screw one in until idle drops by 50rpm, after which you turn out by 1/4. Then do the other three carbs..Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
