The road rider in me looks at the old one and see's loads of tread left but I can testify to it being totally shagged and useless in the mud. Time to fit something fresh.
New back tyre on endure or mx bike is the most awesome feeling! If they weren't such a pain in the arse to fit, I'd have a new one each race!! As it is, I change once per year!! Playsatan said:

Amen to that brother. This one seemed to be a particular pain and I've got the front still to do.That rear had done a years service too so can't complain.
Always sounded a bit gay, but I get the point, for a few hours you're st loads better than you actually are!

Do those piston pliers actually work?

Cheers Fleegle. I'll have a bash without then. I can always buy them if I get desperate.
...Or more likely ask the local garage/engine builder to pop them out for me with an airline.
If you're fitting new ones I've always found pushing them out while attached to the bike then finishing off with some molegrips off the bike works well...Or more likely ask the local garage/engine builder to pop them out for me with an airline.
I’ve always used a set of pillars and some protective material over the edge to get them out.
Come to think of it I got them off ocd’s recommendation, so they will probably be st

I use penetrating fluid if I cant get the pistons out, works a treat.
Your going to be replacing the seals anyway, heard of people reusing old seals mind you.
I as mentioned, push the pistons out as far as I can then split the calipers, and pull the fkers out.
Works well on ones you have just done a season or so ago but can be a nightmare on 15 year old ones. Mind you first time doing 4 pots so should be much easier than the 6 pots.

That's basically the plan. Last time however I managed to get a good seal on a tyre compressor and popped the rear caliper piston out. But I dare say if it's gummed up the farty little compressor will have no chance so I'll use a combination of molies, penetrating oil, and swearing.Prof Prolapse said:

as ive said before, the rear is a piece of piss, there is only one, but when you try to pop out 4 or 6 in the front caliper its a nightmare with air. once you pop the rest stop.
Opposite of Pringles eh? Well I've only ever done singles, and I'm sure it'll be tricker. But I can try and get them almost out all at once though. But we'll see how I get on.I'm happy to use molies or invest in pliers if I need to.
