Mr 996SPS missed his flight to Cartagena , Spain today, so like any sane person he's decided to undertake a 1,600ish mile ride down on the VFR, I think he has the channel booked for 1am tomorrow morning, safe trip mate!

I'm back - What an adventure - Will pop some photos up but to be honest I didn't really stop a lot for sightseeing, memorable highlights was going over the A75 Midi-Pyrenees at 0530 in the pitch black, I was trying to clear my visor and then realised it was ice on the inside, I missed the services due to this and was puling the clutch in and rolling down the descents, all I thought was if I run out of fuel here I'm screwed, the fuel light come on 20 kilometres from Millau Bridge and thankfully there was some services just over the bridge. I promptly fuelled up then cracked on with some star jumps to warm up.

I got 300 miles from Cartagena then noticed oil on my boot and engine casing, I'm convinced it was from the ascent and altitude of the Pyrenees and showing no mechanical sympathy, the flashes of the speed cameras kept my focus thought so every cloud and all that! I bought some oil topped her up and then got back to a good speed.

It was one of the best things I've ever done on a motorcycle - So glad I missed the flight and could not find another flight (All were booked up).

A £1500 1997 VFR 750 got me to Spain (and would have got me back) in 18 hours and 55 minutes and we had a ball.........I showed her no sympathy and sat at decent speeds (apart from the fuel issue).

The services, roads and drivers are superb outside of the UK -I went 40 miles in an hour tonight to get home.

Sounds like an ace trip!

Surely clutching in on the downhills does very little as it'll still be using fuel. Would have been better to clutch in and killswitch to coast down then just unclutch to restart biggrin

What was the reason you didn't ride it back?

They look nice what make are they, I cant make it out, also, are they easy to fit yourself or do you need to bleed the brakes etc, it's my next planned mod and I am not great with the spanners so would probably just pay to have it done properly first time!

I got these from J4race.com. They are a Spanish company and to be honest I hadn't heard of them before stumbling across an eBay advert of theirs. After searching they seemed to have good reviews on some other forums.

I really liked the Sato rearsets, but they cost a fortune. These seem to be a copy of those but feel like decent quality, time will tell I suppose. They do a deal with a full set of spares so I ordered that in case of any offs.

They can also supply them in a range of different colour combinations.

Fitting was pretty straight forward, only slight issue was a shorter bolt than standard was required for the gear linkage bit that clamps on the selector shaft of gearbox. The reason for this is the threads are on the other side so the bolt had to go in from the other direction, but the engine casing is in the way. I found a suitable bolt that's probably about 1 or 2mm shorter but still had plenty in the threads.

Sorry if that doesn't make much sense, it may not be an issue on your bike anyway. Didn't need to bleed brakes, just unbolt master cylinder and attach to new ones.

You say potato I say tomato.

What was the reason you didn't ride it back?

Went to BSB testing and pal put it in the lorry, if I could have the extra days of work would have rode back.

They do look smart. They looked about £210 before postage for the 675... Personally i'd plump up another 20% for SES ones.

Yes that was my worry too. But I've got them now so hopefully they will be fit for purpose.

I'll try and report any issues for anyone interested

I've got 4Racing rearsets on the 675 and have to say they're very good.
Well machined and sturdy and the finish is spot on, no fading or discolouration of the anodising.

So there not cheap Chinese crap?

Must say. They look better than ses. And a complete set with all the spares for £250 seems like a no brainer.
