Home from a PH mini run with castex and clen666. After two aborted attempts with castex, it is great to finally finish a ride that didn't end in mechanical failure or called off due to soaking wet roads. The Ducati 996 and clen666's ZX-6R were looking fastastic, the roads were dry and quiet. I was expecting a fair volume of bank holiday traffic heading south returning from Scotland, possibly causing one of my big fears - moron drivers doing suicidal overtakes on corners, but there was no such bks.

It was definitely a quick one by my standards, hopefully not too pedestrian for the others, but I felt like I'd given my bike a workout. I make no claims about being fast, but I felt like I'd given my bike a decent workout, even if in reality it has a huge reserve of ability that I can't begin to tap. I hope the other guys enjoyed themselves and felt like they were stretching their legs a bit.

We did have a funny moment where we lost castex on a roundabout near Corbridge - I think he we left and we went straight over it, so me and clen666 pulled over to see if castex would come down the road behind us, but he ended up popping out of a junction further down the road from us, accelerating up to us and doing a little power wheelie along the way. I'm still not sure where he went! After that clen left us to head home, and myself and castex carried on our way back to Newcastle. The grunt of that 996 is amazing, there was a corner on our way back that myself and castex tipped into, and as I opened the throttle on the GSX-R the 996 was just disappearing off up the road. What a bike!

I still had problems with my new helmet, particularly when we turned back from the border, I couldn't see a fking thing on the way down the hill even though we weren't tootling along, so I had to pop it open for a bit to let it clear. I can't wait to get a pinlock insert fitted.

Here is us (well, our bikes) at the usual stop off and stretch point. I have one of castex standing next to his bike, but my phone camera is crap and it's quite a dark photo.

James Hillier lapping Neevsey in the Litre bike race (GP1) - as he did everyone I think. You could see Hillier visibily catching up everyone he was lapping.

There's one of mastodon2 and castex.

Enjoyed our run out and good to meet a new forum member. It was brisk enough for my second road ride of the year, had a fiddle with suspension settings before hand to try and make the bike a bit more compliant on the roads and it was better than the last ride.
Was on the reserve light for about 35 miles on the way home. I'm not too sure how far I could get but I was tucked right in to get as far as possible!

I've always wondered about that big brazier thing in the background of the photo, it looks like it's meant to hold a flame. It's probably only lit in the event of the Scottish invading.

I have to say what fab fun I had with Clen and Mastodon this evening. I know the roads well - always a treat whatever the transport. What I really appreciated was that very quickly I gained a hell of a lot of confidence and trust in the riding of both you guys. That meant that I could relax and really concentrate on enjoying myself.
Magic. I love motorbiking.
biggrinbiggrin

Edit to add a pic of these handsome chaps. Must invest in a decent telephone...

Tony, is that the first apex or the second apex in the picture??? Is the photographer sat at the bottom of the loop on the outside, or on the exit of the loop on the outside???

It was the exit at the Melbourne Loop. No idea where the photographer was hiding. I would have crashed earlier had I have known he was there

That was quoted after the actual event. That's how I knew!

There was a delay in getting the pictures up due to really slow turnaround by the photographer

That comes a point where the joy of not being injured outweighs the grief from a damaged bike...
