Going to get a bike to keep at parents shack as a few mates have taken up biking and there is no way I am riding 450 miles a time for a hoon with them.

Anyway, to the question:

Who would you recommend in gods country to do bike set up such as suspension and general maintenance?

Using Steve Jordan (thanks all on here who suggested them) down here in a few weeks so a Scottish equivalent would be ideal.

MTB yes that means I will meet you at KH this year for sure.

I'm a big fan of Saltire Suzuki in Edinburgh when it comes to service and maintenance. Really friendly and always carry out work to a high stamdard in my experience. I'm still looking for someone to do suspension work and plan to try a K-Tech approved workshop at Knockhill later this year, so will report back the.

I was going to use the guy up at knockhill but mckeann recommended me to DMC.

I was going to rebuild my front forks myself but I phoned him

£70 for a full re build off the bike.....

I was going to be 30 or 40 quid for seals and oil myself.....

ill see what the standard is but ive heard good things

it really depends where your based

I made a hundred mile round trip to Kirkcaldy Kawasaki to get my clearances done and adjusted as they only charged £75 for it!!!! winter rates

I do most of PM myself but for the odd jobs I don't have the tools or talent or time for I use GB motorcycles in stirling.

Ive only had one bad experience with getting work done and that was from Morven Motorcycles where I bought one of my ninjas from. Picked up a cracking bike at a good price so was more than happy to give him the custom

I wanted full service done
carbs synced
braided goodridge lines put on, nothing big

the standard of work was that shocking and the customer service was piss poor it made me get my finger out and do my own work on my bikes.

took a week to get it back, lines started to leak fluid all over my brakes 100 miles from home, carbs weren't synced, sight glass full with oil, loads of really stupid mistakes. took another week for him to fix it I found out he had bought cheap ste lines and charged me for goodridge ones hoping I wouldn't find out.

took another week to the lines done, he then only changed the front line took another couple of weeks for him finally to give me what I wanted in the first place.

during that time he refused to change the 50 quid ebc pads id just fitted as he didn't believe they were contaminated, even after I nearly crashed in the wet after picking the bike up due to fked pads. he did replace the pads with gold st...

it was simply woeful the work and service. apparently I was just one of these people who like to complain......took him two months to do what I could now do in a day for a 1/3 of the price with none of the danger. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Ill see you at knockhill

Not used him yet but comes well regarded. Seemed to know his stuff and was straight talking;

http://www.ype-power.co.uk/

His track bike was at the local Suzuki garage in town. Very smart.

ETA: Does suspension set up, I asked recently. The guy is a racer so I trust him.

The service manager lives around the corner from me. Cracking bloke, but...

They have successfully misdiagnosed a generator failure. Which is a basic job (I know after learning to do it myself). This meant I spent 2 bd hours and £11 re-fiting the gasket and cleaning the faces.

I asked for tyres. I waited 45 minutes before profuse apologies because it hadn't been delivered. Saltire were happy however to set my suspension sag for free. Wonderful, except the gentleman didn't actually measure anything, just moved a few bolts and said that it was mostly preference. You get what you pay for.

I'm really loathed not to go there as I liked them, but that's 4/5 interactions have been negative, and there's better garages in the locality.

I was a big fan of SS in Gorgie, always been good customer service and decent work done before - which I value much more than saving £20.

But we'll see how they deal with the latest, so far I'm not exactly singing their praises.

GSX-R was in for valve clearances and had new tyres fitted at the same time. They've chipped both wheels in several places, small nicks but noticeable. And left a sticker on the inside of the tyre - but I'm told this is standard? (annoying if it is)

I called but missed the service guy, emailed pictures of the damage last night, and only when I called this afternoon did I get to speak to the service guy who was most apologetic. Of course I now have to find the time to take it into them again, and his suggestion is for them to fix the chips - metal filler and painted they do in house. But, filler and some rattle can paint doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

And of course this has now tainted my experience with them. The whole reason I got them to do the valve clearances was because I wanted it done right.

It's strange the difference a few months makes. I have recently stumbled across various issued with two of my bikes that Saltire has failed to fix/diagnose/ballsed up and I am now very wary of going back there again. I've found a new garage locally where the guys seem spot on, so I'll stick with them for a while and see how it goes. So far, so good as my 250 has finally (first time in 18 months!) made it back on the road after various problems that couldn't be sorted by SS.

I think they're struggling for people in their servicing department. I'll give them a chance, as up to now they've been great.

Who are you now using? I want a reputable place with a stamp.

I tried them again with tyres. They narrowly avoiding ballsing it up again by not checking their product promotions meaning I was nearly down a back protector.

Again the service manager sorted it out. But that's the fourth time where something has gone wrong and as much I like the people who work there I'm done with it on the tyres and mechanics front.

Going to try Ian Murrary next. He's just been made an authorised Ducati service centre, so a decent stamp for the book.

I'll keep him in mind for next time.

Someone needs to start up Pedantic Mechanics or something, them I'd use!

Anyone had any difficult situations with Ian Murray? That's always the test of good customer service?

Also, what do we reckon to the liquid metal and spray paint fix on my wheels? Small damage, example below:

I had a set of brand new compomotives chipped whilst getting tyres put on by my local ford garage. It was part of an insurance job.

They took over a month to be made then some arse fked 3 of them before they even went on the road.

The insurance told me to give them the chance to touch them up, I was demanding a full re-spray done by compomotive, they rejected this and said if in a year or so that they start to flake they would get it done.

Got it back and it looked fine.

Sure enough 12 months later where they had been chipped they flaked away on all 3 wheels around the rim where the original damage was, just like yours.

I called the insurance and a guy came out who told me these were stone chips.

I pointed out all 4 wheels were spotless apart from the rim, I could understand if one wheel had a chip or two around the rim but not 3. The rim made up like 1 per cent of the wheels exposed area yet it was the only place to get chiped.

After that I just had to live with it, bugged the hell out of me.

Its your call, but don’t be surprised if in a year it flakes off

Yes that was exactly my worry. I've seen it done to car alloy wheels and it looks fine for a while, but eventually it works loose or discolours.

Dropped off today and they offered to give me the wheels off a showroom bike. So that's what is supposed to be happening over the next couple of days!
