Apart from the fk up first thing, it was a good day. I think I may have even smiled

I'm not sure I will repeat it any time soon though as I find large groups can be a bit stifling on having a good blat. That's not a slur on anyones riding by the way

Wildfire - bad judgement but well saved laugh

Deranged Granny - you need to get your chin flat on the tank and your arse in the air, so Mitzy can slap it as she overtakes you

Yes, bit of a clenching moment there, the gravel was a bit of a shock.

I do agree with the large group riding, especially if you don't all ride together a lot. Different abilities and motivations, unfortunately one person is always playing catch up. Perhaps meeting at specific points would make things easier.

Fleegle, thanks for the advice on the bikes, I'll definitely give the candidates a go myself. I've hear the new 675 is much more comfortable than the old one. I was in bits when I got back yesterday off the ZX6-R. BTW your TRX sounds awesome!

Mitzy I will resist the new bike......maybe.....

Spareparts that 1098R is the most beautiful bike ever. Every time I hear/see it I just want it!!

I watched the video footage of my "Hot Overtake" last night.

Very bad judgement. Lucky Wildfire moved over. Not sure if he saw me or it was more luck than judgement hehe

I thought the run down was quite pleasantly paced, even if the roads had a lot of traffic.

Nice early year run out to break our backs in! biggrin

Sorry we lost people after about 100m at the first roundabout (d'oh).
Indeed, 8 people on the first run of the year was probably a bit much and definitely hard to keep together - I regularly did a chicken wing check in my vibey mirrors, and all I saw was a huge Angry Bird Multistrada blaring it's LEDs (sorry Andy hehe) Deranged Granny's dayglo gimplid flat on the tank was LOL! Great to see everyone else!

It was the first time the Ducati went out since the engine rebuild, and she was just fantastic and terrifying at the same time. The first time I pinned it in 3rd gear (ref Scott), she just lifted skyward and I had to unwind to keep her down. Tried the same in 4th gear, and she just lifted again! So I need to readjust my riding style to keep more weight over the front in order to maximise use of the throttle... or maybe consider the longer RS swingarm. She now weighs about 159kg and twists out 75-98 lbsft torque from 5-8k rpm, so 2nd gear brings new meaning to 'be there'.

Look forward to the next ride out, although I may bring the Ape for more road-biased sensibility.

Ade, told you to fit the Nova gearbox tongue outbiggrin

As for the RS swingarm, don't unless you change the front offset, and even then, it won't make a jot of difference to the constant wheelies. 1198? they all do that sir!!

The gearbox wasn't the issue though Steve - In fact, it was absolutely silky smooth after the superfinishing. Really delightful throughout! What else does the Nova box do?

It was good to meet you yesterday and I'll second that about Ade's duc! It also sounds like a Ducati should.

It seems to stop the huge isue you're discovering as i did when Daisy first turned a wheel in anger. Wheelies everywhere, any gear, any throttle opening almost any speed (up to 200kph in my case)
It has a very tall 1st and 6th is 2x first so the ratios are nicely stacked, and no constant hoisting of the front. So if your final drive ratios permit 80mph in first, 6th will top out at 160mph.
Mine did exactly as yours is doing, as soon as you got near the power, the bike would just stand up. Funny at first, tiresome after a while. I ven posted vids of it. Change gear? Up she'd come. Hard on thegas? Up she'd come.
The Duc ratios are a bit of a dogs dinner, albeit your R ratios are much better than the normal where 5th and 6th are overdrives. So it makes the lower gears very long and very wheely prone. Also testers have always complained that the 1198 felt like it wanted to get away from you as you exited a corner winding on the gas, exactly as mine used to do.
Since fitting the Nova ratios, problem solved. She accelerates like a mad thing, but no wheelies when the oooomph starts to arrive as the revs rise, just forward thrust. Provoke it, yes she'll still whelly like a good 'un, but in serious use, she keeps her head down and goes.
And if you're not aware, these are the exact, from the same supplier gearboxes Ducati Corse use in the factory race bikes, Checa et al. All Austrian super steel, supertreated and finished on perfect layshafts ready to go.With your cases open, it would have been ideal.

She rides well. Bags of torque although video evidence says you set off before I did hehe

Did you have any video?
