Now the suns out, I'm back on two wheels. Unfortunately, with the cold wind, and my heated grips on the blink, my thin summer leather gloves aren't helping, and leaving my hands numbing very quickly (I have raynaud's)

I don't want to move to a full textile winter glove and lose all feeling, can anyone suggest an in between? Whatever price.

Thanks

Have you tried wearing a thin pair of gloves underneath your summer gloves? Can be latex gloves or 'work' gloves that tradesman wear. I've seen some 'bespoke' versions in Decathalon for underneath ski gloves (they were some kind of textile). My mate does this as he doesn't have heated grips!

Hi Jon,

Yes, I can highly recommend Held Race Tex gloves thumbup

Oustanding gloves, which should be perfect for what you described.

Like Alpinestars 365, only better wink

Protection is even better than Held Warm'n'Dry gloves.

Superb feel, thanks to kangaroo leather and X-trafit.

Surely you just buy some leather winter gloves and wear them when it is cold enough?

Even a pair of lobster claw mitts don't prevent you feeling the bars and levers. Better than freezing hands at 1degc.

I recommend highly Held Warm n Dry gloves for exactly your situation, very good at keeping out the windchill with a thermofleece outer layer but with a goatskin palm/finger area that ensures good 'feel' and they're on offer at Get Geared for £99.99

At a much lower price point, I've been using these through the winter. Never had a problem and I have now switched to summer gloves so they keep my hands very warm - http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/c...

I don't normally like thicker gloves but these were a quick buy as i needed some water proof gloves again - haven't had a issue with lake of feel.

This, a pair of thin gloves (usually made for runners/bicyclists) are great to wear under your regular gloves. A nice little thing is that they are so small you can easily keep them in your bike/gear at any time if you want to put them on/put them away.

I use a pair of silk undergloves- they breathe, help with vibration, stop linings pulling out of my winter gloves when I take them off and make unlined gloves more comfortable.

About £6 on eBay.

With Raynaud's aren't you better getting something like heated grips as well?

I'm not sure whether you have particularly bad days, but you could whack the heat up if you did.

ETA: Didn't read you already have them. Seems a no brainer to get them fixed.

Thanks guys. In reply:

Undergloves - my usual gloves are so tight and comfortable, I don't want to stretch them out with unders, plus they don't help as much as I need.

Heated grips - they will be fixed, but thanks to tyre testing I spend a lot of time on other bikes, so need a backup glove.

SVS - Thank you, I'm about to order a pair of racetexs!

Sorry, I never came back to this thread.

I ended up getting these, great recommendation, thanks smile

They're not what I'd call a warm glove, but they do take the edge off the cold which means I can ride for longer. Also, because they're not a full warm glove, you still get excellent feel through the brake etc.

Thanks again smile

I might be missing something, but I'm currently wearing a pair of leather Sidi gloves with Thinsulate lining for riding. There's plenty of feel -just how much do you need??- and today they were warm at 3degc, but not hot or sweaty at 17degc.

Why did you need some warm summer gloves that aren't that warm?

Hi Jon, I'm glad you liked the Held Race Tex. I use the older version of these and find them superb for most of the year. I had Alpinestars 365 gloves before, but the Race Tex are even better (better feel, better quality leather and much better protection).

MC, I want more feel than Thinsulate gloves offer smile Plus the Held Race Tex are more comfortable in spring/summer rain/autumn. For most British riding, say 10-25 Centigrade, Race Tex are the most comfortable gloves I've ever tried. I also like how much protection they have - more than a lot of race gloves. In short, I reckon they're brilliant. Only in deep winter have I resorted to Thinsulate-lined gloves and I do notice their reduced feel.

I was actually responding the original poster, There may be a bit less feel with some winter gloves (although even lobster claw mitts/gloves don't actually hinder riding ability) but better to be warm than have a smidgen more feel in my opinion.

I wanted a compromise. I don't go out riding in 3c temperatures, but on the days I go out riding at 15c and by night it has dropped to 10c, its nice to have a pair of gloves that takes the edge off the cold.

These just about do that, so I'm happy, and I don't need to worry if I end up riding in really hot weather, like I would in full winter gloves.

Fair enough. My Sidi gloves are my cool and wet weather gloves (My Held 2-finger 'lobster' gloves are my cold weather ones), although when it is summer/really hot is when I wear summer gloves that aren't warm...
