I don't really understand this need to modify - it's a fun bike and if it could take tuning, I'm sure Honda would do it.
It is expensive for a 125 at £2700(the build and spec justify it though)so adding to the cost makes limited sense. .
Not even an Exhaust?

Guess that's the difference between buying it as a commuter tool or buying it as a toy.

You might just as well buy a Honda CRF250M trail bike for £4k because the MSX may be small but it's not particularly light (compared to something like the old CG125).
The problem is my gf will only be entitled to ride upto a 125cc on a CBT she has never ridden a bike before and even if she could she wouldn't want a CRF250m.

That's where the MSX fits in better looking than a CG imo with a lower seat height perfect for short arses!

The 125cc argument is a good one, there are a lot of countries where you don't need a special license to ride 125 cc motorcycle. For good or for worse.

An MSX isn't really a "head" purchase, but a heart one.

Something about them screams like Honda made it without a final destination in mind, to leave it to the buyer to finish, and as a result it has barely been out in the wild for long enough to run the warranty out and it is already a cult classic.

And a 2700 price tag isn't that bad, a couple of Yammy 125s are 4k+...

How are people complaining about the price?
When MissB and I first saw it at the NEC back in Nov we were amazed how cheap it was.

I agree that it is a heart purchase for sure, it is quirky and fun NOT a dull commuter looking thing or a riding school bike, or a faux sportsbike with puny engine.. as with previous Monkey bikes it is what it is you either "get it" or you don't.

2700 is cheap. You can pay more for Taichinorea 125s. What is the insurance like? Now that it's cult-desirable and around for enough time to become noticeable, will the rates go up?
I pay 160 quid with no NCB.

When I say expensive, I mean compared to buying a used car.

Show-off! Due to: FWB miles, reside in middle-of-nowwhere and undesirable bike..? biggrin

LuS1fer, how does that compare with other bikes, for you?
It seems to depend on value. I could have got an old CB900F Hornet insured for the same money. I have held a full motorcycle licence since 1980 but any NCB I ever earned expired and my last bike, a CBR1000 got stolen in 1992.

I wasn't aware that Hondas came with Datatag as standard either and declaring that would have saved me £10 on the premium. Another tenner could have been saved by nominating a security device on a list, all of which were at least £80 so I bought a £25 chain from Amazon and forewent it instead....

I think you pay more for using it for work as opposed to SDP.

Don't get me wrong, if I had storage space (my Mustang fills the garage), I'd have probably bought a GSXR750 but I squeeze this down the side of my house and store it in the conservatory at the back. The shed I bought for it is still in my other shed....

With every Grom you buy a piece of motorcycling history, and extend it.

The horizontal single from Honda origins in the 60s and is in 120 Million production numbers now,
1 / 120,000,000th of a piece of history?

including the chinese / Thai / other countries copies / clones (legal & illegal).

The longest production run and evolution chain ever, probably only rivalled by the small block Chevrolet.
I would have thought that the BMW flat twin beats that for years of evolution. 90 years, I believe.

my quote is £90 fcb 1 years no claims riding for 1 year.

Gf cbt only 400 third party fire and theft

not sure what the best thing to do tbh as if i go on as a named rider on her policy its 400 but its only TPFT

I agree it's a heart purchase,
I rode 1 for about 2 months in Thailand last year with the GF which is why we both wanted one over here.

I did test ride it last week just for peace of mind just in case what worked over there didn't work on our roads,
But i had a riot on it managed to get the front wheel up a tad without really trying to hard, it just feels so light and chuckable!!
The bonus of it being small and light also with FI it starts right away can just hop on and go without having to mess around with the choke like on my cbr400rr, which will come in handy if im just nipping out a close distance and don't want to take the car or CBR.

Cheers. I just checked with Dealer and it looks like the Datatag on all Hondas came in last year.

I journey only with a disc lock, a big yellow Squire thing that can be used to padlock a chain aswell. I suppose, that little bike probably needs a chain or it will be literally carried off?

As has been previously thrashed-out in discussions, the quandry is if you state in on your insurance, then you have to ensure you use it. Sometimes, this could be a meagre saving on the premium against an instance where you might hot have it around and the bike is lifted.
Exactly. I have never used my chain as the bike is parked in a secure car park and the chain I have is bloody heavy.
I'd probably use it if I took the bike and parked it in public but it is small so you still have to lock it to something immovable.
It's not as light as it looks but could easily go in a Transit using a plank and one wheel.

Out of interest, who is supplying these cheap insurance quotes? I got mine through Compare the Market - I'm 54 so while I probably fall into the dangerous "born again biker" category, I would rather pay £80.

Got one booked for a week Friday.

I was chatting with the dealer and he said they've sold loads to people with boats/motor homes, which I thought was interesting. They sold out really quickly last year. I thought they were new for 2014, but it would appear not. I'll have a test ride and see, but I am a bit tempted!

Correct, Jock, I forgot about that and also forgot the H-D 45° twin,

still the numbers put the little Honda up front.

Prompted by the sale of my son's Bob The Builder kiddy bike, it suddenly struuck me how funny it would be to do one of these out in a Bob The Builder/Postman Pat/Spiderman theme, possibly with a matching yellow/blue. red webbed helmet.

Would this be cool or very sad. It's rhetorical...

Had my test ride today. Encourages you to do silly things around town. Ever single speed bump is a launch pad. Get a few of your mates on them as well and it would be carnage. Too slow for out of town. My example just managed 60 on the flat. It did only have 35 miles on it though. :P
