Track day noise limits
Discussion
How strict are the noise limits at track days? I guess it depends on the track and their own limits but if you have a modified exhaust are you f***ed?
We're thinking of doing Mallory on my GSXR with a Akrapovic and Street Triple R with a SC-Project GP M2 exhaust. Mine has a bung which should help but the GSXR is a loud bike even as standard.

Cool, we've just ordered a DB meter online so will be able to test them before booking. How far away do they normally hold the meter when doing the test?
ACU noise testing info.....Relevant to most tracks .....but not all.http://www.clubmsv.com/bike-testing-noise-limits
My brother has a 2009 fireblade and his local circuit Castle Combe has a 105db noise limit.
He had his bike testing with the following:
Yoshimura - 113db (with baffle fitted)
Std Honda can - with a DB killer - 108db
So - he was nowhere close to getting on track.
We decided to move the silencer away from the engine as the test
would not pickup engine noise.. plus we could use a bigger silencer.
The result was 103db and the bike now has a very retro look .. will post up a picture later.

No way is a standard exhaust going to put out that noise at 5500 revsCastle combe tested mine Saturday. Came out at 112db at 11,500 revs. They let me on just because it was a bike safe day. Have ordered a standard can now as I've booked a track tuition day there. Hopefully that will pass.
Bike is a 2003 R6 with a stubby can and no baffles, not sure what make it is.

Castle Combe don't test according to ACU regs. They're the only circuit in the country not to, but yes there are a few bikes on standard systems that will fail. 2006 onwards R6, and 749 also spring to mind.
Tested my missus R6 at 11500rpm. It failed miserablyThere was a photo knocking around of a bloke that wedged another can into the end of his stock can on an R6 to get it through the noise test. It passed like that, so he used a ratchet strap and rode it on track like it. :O

All the MSV tracks would have tested an IL4 600cc bike at 7k revs. Why did Combe insist on 11.5k revs, were they suggesting 3/4 of maximum?http://www.clubmsv.com/Bike-trackday-noise-limits....
