All I'm saying is that his insurer will put him in touch with whoever handles their legal cover (provided OP has this cover) and he does have the option to use them if he wants.

So after all that I think we're basically on the same page. Happy days.
Of sorts, but the OP is far better off pricing it up and getting the cash off the driver upfront. The driver seems willing to cough up now and that's easier than paying out and then trying to get your money back, although that can be easy it can also take time. I know where you're coming from, but the lack of Fully Comp cover has made this trickier.

He said he didn't know how it had happened, as he didn't even move his car! I pointed out that it's not possible to reverse a motorbike fast enough to leave it embedded in a car (the bike was standing up of its own accord, still attached to his bumper). Wouldn't want him coming back and claiming against me for his damage...
If he hit your bike that hard, I'd be getting it looked at. It could have bent important bits! Are you sure your back isn't hurt? Groin? Groin could have been shunted into the tank?

I'm confused here, can someone clarify this because the way you guys are talking it's like the guy who got hit will struggle to get his bike fixed, even though it's the other drivers fault.

In this situation if the driver who hit him refuses to give insurance details how does he go about finding out the drivers insurance company to arrange repairs after blame has been placed?

I,e why the fk should he pay for someone else ramming him up the jacksie?

OP - who cares if he's being evasive - I'd have just got him to pay for the damage cash and fixed it myself.

You're now in a world of ste and paperwork, if and when it gets sorted you'll be bikeless while it's fixed and you've now got a claim (regardless of fault) on your record and possible increased premium.

What a waste of your time.

Yeah what a waste of my time, I agree. I didn't want the muppet to drive into the back of me.

As .blue was saying, the legal cover people were dealing with contacting the third party. I got a message late yesterday afternoon saying my claim has been settled and my NCD unaffected.

I know that it can still take time from here, but it seems me being rear ended, plus having a witness to back up my story, means it's a cut and dried case.

I know I'll have to declare an incident on my insurance renewal from now on though.

Thanks for everybody's input.
