Don't mean to be funny but what help is it suggesting something you've never tried when someone's asking for a sound recommendation
Its self serving to a degree as I am/was thinking about buying from them. Rather than starting separate thread I thought I'd tack in here. Following on from the reply from Mr OCD I'd like to know how the are ste.

In future Would you like me to PM you first before I make a post?

All I'm saying is if someone's asking what's best you posting something up that you've just come across on the internet but have no experience of isn't going to help the OP is it. If you're after new discs it'd make more sense to listen to what those have posted on here who are giving advice based on personal experience than throwing something in you don't know about... Or am I going mad

It'll help me and possibly anyone who does an internet or forum search.

Is that OK?

Why are they ste?

Ok... I will bite smile

I purchased a pair of discs from the company for my bike at the time (Yamaha Thundercat) to replace warped OE discs... so I took the opportunity to refurb the calipers, new seals, polished pistons and installed with pads from said company along with their discs...

All was fine for around 3,000 miles and in that time I also did a track day on the bike ... after 3,000 miles the brakes started to judder... so I contacted the said company and arrange for the return of the brake discs.

I got accused of hammering the discs as they showed extensive wear when measured and that the disc run out was poor and I must have fitted them wrong (20yrs spannering and I install brake discs wrong? - errr ok) ... if I remember correctly they said I must have done over 20,000 miles...

So then I was advised I would have to pay for replacement outer discs ... despite being less than 12 months old.

They couldn't explain how the disc face material wore to near minimum limits in such a short space of time ... despite advertising these discs have been tested on track.

So I put it down to experience and put OE back on the bike... 30,000 miles later had no problems.

... I've a story about them too... biggrin

TBH I've tried Black Shadow, EBC, and Galfer ... I'd go for OE or Brembo every time.

Yep, that's correct... the same bike also went through a set of EBC discs quickly as well.

No issues on OE stuff.

I've used Galfer on the R1's - all fairly hard braking - all without issue

I've used EBC on the TZR in race conditions - again with no issue

Having said that, I've had no issue with original equipment either

I do know of other TZR's that suffered with EBC discs though

An R1 and a TZR are somewhat lighter than a lardy ZX9R ... smile

Carbone Lorraine are a great pad, a similar OE co-efficient with A3 compound or more bite with XBK5, i have the latter on my K6 1000.

I had my front discs changed on my old ZZR1400 under warranty after only 7000 miles. Another 6-7000 miles later and the same juddering returned but the bike was then out of warranty. Kawasaki said they needed replacing again. I gave the bobbins a clean as the discs are semi-floating and the problem disappeared. Took about 20 mins. I'm convinced the discs didn't need changing first time round and the dealer simply didn't know what he was doing. Discs very rarely warp but being semi-floating, lots of brake dust and road grime can block the tolerences necessary for the discs to float, giving uneven runout resulting in juddering through the brake lever(s).

An R1 and TZR spanked on the track get a harder life than a lardy zx9 on the road wink

Either way it's irrelevant, the discs are sold to be fit for purpose, shouldn't really matter how the bikes used, for a given mileage anyway.

Update; I tried the above procedure for cleaning the bobbins and it SEEMS to have done the trick. I won't know for sure until I go for a proper ride, but the quick lap around the bypass was very promising smile Thanks for all the advice, hopefully it's saved me over £400 smile
