Eventually it dawns on you that you are paying out for 2 or maybe 3 x Road Tax/Insurance/Tyres/Servicing et al just so you can have a shiny sports bike for sunny days, an upright for normal days and a tourer or Adventure bike for distance. You decide to consolidate your 1st World Problem into just one bike.

So the great & the good of PHBB which one can offer the best compromise between :--

190 BHP Sleek Sports Bike

130 BHP Uphandlebar

125 BHP Tourer / Adventure Bike

I await the input and suggestions.

ZZR1400, K1300S, Ducati Multistrada.

Personally finding the ZZR mightily impressive at everything from commuting into the City on Friday, to high speed M-ways, A road scratching and town work. Really is all the bike you'd ever need, but if I had to have just one bike, I would miss the focus of a sports bike when you are really wanting to go 10/10ths or the roads get a bit tighter.

I had a ZZR1400 from new for 6 years and 40k miles. Great bike for the motorway but certainly not as versatile as the VFR1200XD that I've had for the last year. It's got a proper 4 cyl engine (V4), super comfortable, very fast, handles well, can cruise well into 3 figures, shaft drive , to me looks fantastic and the best build quality in its class. It's also noticeably quicker on Alpine roads (which I frequent several times a year) than my old ZZR1400. The ZZR was very good but the CT can do so much more.

if they did a multistrada with shaft drive i would say that, but you know you're getting a GS so enjoy :-)

K1300S would be the best bet. Sporty enough when you want it to be, comfortable and big enough to not make longer trips an iron man challenge, shaft drive and probably makes it's tyres last longer than the ZZR1400. That said, if I was buying I'd have the ZZR1400 and just live with the tyre and chain consumption.

K1300S, VFR1200 or, if you aren't fussed by chain maintenance, VFR800.

Cant be done in one bike, the nearert compromise is the sports tourer, best of the bunch, so i hear from many on and off this very forum, is the ZZR1400 , so id be heading down that road..

I don't think it's possible to have just 1 bike. You can have the wife. But you need the mistress hehe

But otherwise, I think there is a very strong argument for the K1300R.

SWMBO thinks that I should keep the MV and sell the Speed Triple, replacing it with an R1200 GS TU "Rallye" so there you have it.

Honda Fireblade 954.

I have the 929 version, which is good, but not great. The 954 they sorted out the fueling and gave it a few more ponies. Very comfortable, light clutch and not bad steering lock for a sports bike; great at doing 10mph in town then hit the back roads and you have 140hp to play with.

Having owned a K1200s, I'd discount a K1300s as an all rounder. Great for chomping around Europe or long distance commuters (I did N Wales >Manchester) but not an all rounder.

GS or Multistrada are good shouts though. Still a bit BMW steery though. Kawa Z1000sx is supposed to be good (sales say it all).
