I managed to get out for an early doors ride around Lancs, including Bowland, in the sun this morning. Great stuff.

The Street Triple wasn't quite ideal for the lumps and jumps of the Trough of Bowland (my old suspension-fettled TDM a few years back was a bit more suitable and I briefly began pining for a KTM SM...), but it was really good (and far better than the TDM) everywhere else.

Hi to the bloke on the 90s Super Tenere if you are on here.

Good stuff. Did that a few years back with Jazoli. Never again on a sports bike.

Haha.

Well, having caught and passed Mr Ténéré earlier on, and having slowed down for Dunsop Bridge village, he re-appeared behind me at the bottom of the Trough. I was then required to ride the lumpy bits with gusto, including a bit of air-time, in order to uphold Triumph's honour wink I suspect the other bloke had a more comfortable ride.

I do know a few routes around the area that don't involve the Trough.

It was hard work that day, too bumpy, its not too bad if you go slowly, but what's the point in that.

Some of the other roads in the area are great for a sports/naked sports bike though.

I live in the Trough of Bowland and never had any problems with a sports bike. Bit bumpy but plenty fast enough in places. Never any police around too which is nice.

I'd love to go for a ride with someone who knew they're way through there. I only know the road from Kirkby Lonsdale to Halton. I've been through in the car loads of times but don't remember which roads go where.

I was over near Newby Bridge on Friday; 6 mile queue from Scotch Corner soon filtered through and then it was plain sailing... although the guy on the ? GS500 on the road from Kirby Stephen to Tebay was picking all the wrong places to overtake: blind bends, double-whites...
Came back at tea-time via Bowness (busy), Kendal (quiet), A685 (deserted) and did the 96 mile trip home in 72 minutes, hardly touched the brakes, it was that quiet on the roads!

It was very quiet yesterday morning too, which makes a pleasant change.

Been through there a few times, often to walk the dogs etc.. but never seen it so busy along the river (Wyre) as it was on Friday. It's hard to tell if the surface of the road is loose in places, especially in the shade of trees. That's my excuse for put-puting and wobbling along so slowly.
I was out before the crowds.

Ps. The general rule is: where you can't see you take it easy!
