Selling a high miler

Hello everyone,
Come this june / july, I'm going to sell my bike. My problem is it's a 15 year old SV650 with north of 70,000 miles. It's pretty alright mechanically, but cosmetically it's a bit weathered (as one might expect) and still bears the crack of when I dropped the thing after a pedestrian ran out across the road.
What's the best way to sell it? eBay? Gumtree? I doubt I'd get much in part-ex.

Well, like anything, if the price is right it will sell.
It sounds like a good commuter and when I started riding the SV650 was generally hinted as THE starter bike (smooth twin power) so that would be a great way to advertise/sell it imho. Sensible people that start riding a bike (sounds like a contradiction
) will get a tatty one that won't cost them a fortune if they drop it once.
As for the location to sell it, I have no idea in the UK but here we have some dedicated "autotrader-esque" websites that have a bike section and they are generally the place to go to sell/buy bikes. (autoscout24 is the most popular one here for bikes) I know it's getting old but... ebay is full of time wasters.

It would pitch well as a commuter bike, it has a topbox and heated grips, and I have some handlebar muffs for when it rains / gets really cold!
I might even have the restricter washers that sit between the carbs and the inlet tracts somewhere, so it's "new rider" friendly

Stick some ads up at your local school (if they have a base). Hopefully, you'll be able to shift it at a friendly price to new rider, and with less chance of having to deal with random idiots.
I remember the ad boards in tesco in the 90's! what a quaint way to sell something. Get it on gumtree it will be gone in hours if a few hundred with tax and mot

Hmm, sounds perfect, locals so no problems re collection/transport, and the school is a perfect place for a starter bike like the SV650.dern said:

I did not know that. Defiantly worth a snappy ad then. What's the concensous on letting people test-ride? What sort goodwill gestures should I expect? Asking price in my hand, some proof of insurance to ride someone elses bike?thatdude said:

Make sure you have the cash in hand before they test ride. If they drop it, they buy it. If they come back and don't like it, they get their cash back.thatdude said:

My take on it is that they come along already knowing that this is the make/model of bike that they want and that they can have a test ride after they've decided that they want mine based upon the price we'll have already agreed. The ride is then just to allow them to be reassured that the bike is as described and they'll get to ride it after they've handed the cash over. If there's anything wrong with it they get the money back.John D. said:

I did used to post on sv650.org, I can put it in there given it's an excellent resource of all things SV in the UK.
A dealership offered me £350 for it when I asked them what they might give against an FZ1s
