KTM Superduke 990
Discussion
Off to test ride one on friday. Bike wasn't ready to take out today and friday is first day I can get in. Been given a good trade in price on the gs and it's not much to change. Looking forward to it.
Also sat on an mt-09 which looked like it would fit the bill although is more as is new. Really lovely little thing but little is right... it's tiny. I felt like I was on the wife's pushbike. I know the gs is huge but the superduke fits me much better.

Bought it.
Will pick it up in 2 weeks subject to my BMW getting an mot which it will.
Very different to the BMW obviously but half way between that and the R1. Was a bit odd actually have to put some effort in to turning the bike but I'm sure I'll get used to it as quickly as I did the big beemer.
Engine is lovely. Fuelling is slightly snatchy at low rpm and low throttle openings but it's better than the gs. Everywhere else it's lovely and pulls really well. Sounds nice on standard cans too. Gearbox is really nice.
Really comfy although feels more compact than the bmw. I felt a bit on top of the bars initially but within a couple of miles all felt good. Oddly it felt a lot better at quick dual-c speeds that the bmw. Although there's no screen there's also no buffeting.
Couldn't care less about the tank range.
Should be a lot of fun I think.
Cheers,
Mark

As far as I know it's had akras on and the put back for trade in and the pipes ebay'd... you never know. Rides fine though.
It's the 2005/6 model with the orange clocks but on a 2007 plate.
Get it remapped back to standard , they have been known to catch fire if left with the akro map left on .As far as I know it's had akras on and the put back for trade in and the pipes ebay'd... you never know. Rides fine though.

Catch fire?Anyway, I didn't mean that I knew it has had akros on, I said as far as I know it could have had them on. Just like any bike you don't know what's been removed prior to sale. It could also have been left standard. Don't know.

Worth finding out , ring previous owner from log book details? The catching fire bit we were told by either our local ktm dealer ( the ktm centre hemel ) or a friend who works for ktm uk , we can't remember which , i think it relates to overfuelling Anyway, I didn't mean that I knew it has had akros on, I said as far as I know it could have had them on. Download tune ecu and buy the cable, then you can access the ecu and check which map is loaded, I would suggest taking it to projex (near Dudley) they will remap using tune ecu which means you don't need to buy a power commander (costs about £150) it will smooth out the throttle, worth buying an rc8 progressive throttle tube which is about 20 quid the first part of the throttle is a bit on / off which makes it a bit jerky and difficult to control into / out of cornersBMW passed the mot so was able to trade it straight in against the KTM and went for a the 50 mile version of the way home (rather than the 2 mile direct route). Bit of rain but nothing too bad. That's the most fun I've ever had on two wheels, really happy with it. So happy I had to buy a new lid.
Christ I love this bike, it's an absolute riot. Should have got one ages ago, it's not like they weren't recommended to me.
Like a 600 with a big grunty engine and so much more slingable that a bent over sports bike. Really confidence inspiring, makes all the right noises. Very pleased with it.
80 to fuel light on on the open road. 60 to light on on my commute which is through town but even town riding on this things is a massive laugh.
