It doesn't matter if it does / does not ... 2000-2500 miles from something like a Pilot Power 3 is NOT atypical mileage.

On a single compound older sports tyre... something more track biased such as supercorsa's or the like yes I'd accept that...

On a modern multi-compound sports road tyre - no
2500 for a rear PP3 on a 600, probably because i am a fat bd, lardy arse at 14.5 Stone,

I need to lose weight so i can fit into my old clothes and make my tyres last.

Their focus on wet weather compounds also seems to be setting the bar for manufacturers as both their Z8 and now M7RR have been top rated in the wet for their respective categories.
That's (more) great info. Where/who rated the M7RR top in the wet? Was it a magazine test?

Just received a pair of these (£209) for my Gixxer (sorry!!) thou K4.

Can't wait to try them smile Still haven't seen a bad review of them from Panigale downwards.

First impressions, just handling them, they feel light and sticky to the touch. Profile looks nice. Will be my first ever go on Metz tyres smile

Take it easy until the are scubbed - Pirelli / metzler are pretty slippery when new. I went down on a new front Rosso 2 - was like riding on ice.

I've had these on for about 200 miles - they were not slippery at all - once up to temp I just increased lean steadily and I'm riding normally. They do seem to be very very grippy now. Great tyres.

To be fair I always ride steady on new tyres for the first few miles.

Always used Bridgestones in the past and they're slippery as hell when new! eek

Does anyone know what the tread depth is of a new m7rr in 190 50 17 (if the size makes any difference)?

I have 4.6 mm left on my rear after around 1000 easy roads miles.

"Tyre anxiety" wink is now setting in as I will be off on a 2600 mile euro tour in a few weeks and want the tyre to last till the end.

If I'd have measured the tread depth when it was new I could work out the wear but I didn't.

I have a new rear metzeler K3 ready for after the trip- it only has 4.8mm tread depth from new.

Yep... but can't measure it until tonight. I have just installed new M7RR on the bike and it's not been used yet smile

For info I got 4,900 miles from the last one ...which took it down to 0.5mm above the wear indicator.

Brand new tyre is 6mm smile

So you've used 1.2mm in 1000 miles

Thanks for that.

Its 1.4mm of wear. I am slightly surprised!

1.4 = 1000 miles
2.8 = 2000 miles
4.2 = 3000 miles
4.9 = 3500 miles
- legal limit -
5.6 = 4000 miles

It looks like it may not go the distance, I'll get a new tyre before I go.

Sounds about right ... They definitely wear more than a pilot power 3.

PR3 negatives - Their stability, especially when new is very suspect when cracking on. Above 170, there was quite a scary weave, that got no worse at v-max, but meant you could only do that speed in a straight line. The speed limit on sweepers was dictated by the stability, especially if hard on the throttle above 130.
Cant say I had this issue on my ZZR with PR3’s – maybe they were scrubbed in before I got to Germany. I did the B500 on a set and they felt great – also did silly speeds on the Autobahn chasing a trick 911 turbo 180 + . They did seem to go off after about 5500 miles but still had lots of tread. I had the same issue as you in the twistys where I warped my front disks coming back from the Eagles Nest and had to stop it the hairpins with the rear but fun never the less.

This was the tyre after I get back

5500 miles ! On our Euro Tour 2014 I got 3300 miles on one just like yours on my 1050 Speed Triple.

I did a bit of measuring of my tread depth before and after a 300 miler this weekend.

Road pace, mixed road types, mixed weather.

Wear on the centre of the tyre was 0.5MM, 0.2mm towards the edges.

That confirms my thoughts on fitting a new one before the touring trip.

Great tyres but they don't seem to do much mileage.

If 7/10ths, any touring tyre will do really. I've been running the new Dunlop RoadSmart 2 tyres on my GS (3DP knows how I ride), and they've been great. Not the quickest turning tyre due to their rounded carcass profile, but copious dry grip for the road to wheelie off the throttle and huge wet grip (equivalent to PR3/4). And without the squirming movement that afflicts all the PR3/4 tyres due to their sipes.

I also ran Metzeler Z8 touring tyres which look almost identical to the M7RRs in terms of tread design, but are more touring oriented. M7RRs are still fantastic road sports bike handling tyres, but they come at the expense of longevity. The latest touring tyres are more than enough imho for proper pace on the road.

As a comparison to the M7RR, I still rate the Diablo Rosso Corsa as a fantastic sports bike tyre - very similar to the M7RRs in concept, but offering more responsiveness in the dry (sharper profile) without giving up much in wet grip stakes.
