Only real change beyond sorting the suspension to work to modern standards, is that the seat could do with more padding and less of a downward slope. I would research it, but I can't really face the R1 forum as they refer to each other as being in 'squadrons' which manages to be both chavvy and ghey in one go.

2) The R1 is seriously fking good. It's insane. Doing speeds on corners I could never achieve on the 1098 (same tyres (Pirelli Diablo RC)...and it's effortless. 2) Having just replaced a stolen Daytona 675 with a Daytona 675, I now really rather wish I'd knocked back the brave pills and procured me an R1.

And I'm a yoof.The R1 is a joy to ride and a great bike to ride like a loon or just bumble along. I had a 2005 R1 from new for 4 1/2 years and did 75,000 miles on it mainly commuting into London from the herts/essex borders. As it does have a rather tall first gear I dropped a tooth on the front sprocket which made it easier to live with especially in London as you don't need to be in 1st gear constantly, and this allows you to carry the speed in the corners in 2nd gear instead of dropping to 1st and making the bike more nervous. I also de-catted mine and had Akrapovic cans on it from new, also fitted a set of HIDs as the bike has projector style lights. I still miss it to this day.

Good to see they can do the mileage ... I'm racking the miles up on mine riding Manchester-Liverpool most days... I have also dropped from 17T front sprocket to 16T and like you say makes it easier, along with decat, cans and custom remap (PC3) ... I've no intention of selling this one. -1T on front needs speedo healer as although throws the speedo out 6.6% only in standard they are already 8.9% out so after the speedo is over 15% out!
