Todays a learning day for me. Whats a daytime MOT?
I suppose I'd better explain. I have an old R1 which I was thinking of making into a track only bike as I have a bike trailer. I'm freinds with the local bib. They warned me about turning it into a track bike. The bib in my area have apparently been tasked with going to a high number of bike trackdays, looking for track only bikes and running them through their system. They also sit at the locla petrol station for the stream of track only bikes which popped out for a fill up.
If the bike has ever been nicked in its past they will likely confiscate the bike and make you present documents at the local copshop. Its a non toll policy due to the very very high numbers of stolen bikes circulating in the track only bike world.
If your bike has even been stolen and recovered you will likely get swept up in this through no fault of your own. So the advice was to keep a track bike like a standard road bike to avoid this as you won't fall into their capture criteria.
That's a load of bks if ever I heard it. They might be more interested in a track only bike, but they can't confiscate a bike that has a frame and chassis number if it's not recorded as stolen. They also can't confiscate a bike without any frame numbers, as it's never been road registered. They can confiscate a bike with a defaced chassis number as there is no legal reason to deface it. They can't confiscate a bike just because it's been stolen previously. If it's been recovered it will be recorded as recovered amd that's the end of the theft issue.
They can nick you for riding a bike on the road to the petrol station if it's not fully road legal ie tax, MOT and insurance. Punishments for missing one of those vary.
However, I don't have a problem with plod turning up and giving track bikes a good going over. If they do it more often it might stem at least one outlet for stolen bikes.

MOT that permits the bike to be used in the daylight hours only. Thus does not require a headlight.julian64 said:
Thats interesting cos when I first built my Cobra Kit car it didn't have headlights, they were quite difficult to source and it woul dhave been more convenient to take the car to the headlamp place. However Mr MOT was having none of it.
You should have taken the car to a place that knows the regulations. There is only one MOT certificate - if no lights are fitted an advisory note will detail this and warn not to use the vehicle between dusk and dawn.
If lights and switchgear are fitted they must be working.
The issues come from MOT testers and some police not being aware of the pertinent regulations.

Not sure that a 'daytime only' MOT actually exists.
Although it's just a normal mot it technically can only be ridden in daylight hours so it's not wrong really to say it is it?Although I was under the impression if it had one light present then all must be present and working. That looks like it has a rear brake or some sort of rear light still visible. (Not that I'm bothered, just curious as to how it works)
I checked the MOT and it's just a normal MOT at the moment.
I'll look more into that before that time comes (about 5 months)
I did a bit of tidying up on the bike today, really looking forward to my trackday now!
I've just put some ebc sintered pads all round on it, and booked it in for the new master cylinder (warranty)

What a load of bks. If the police really do attend track days to look for stolen bikes, and your bike has been stolen and recovered previously, all they need to do is check the details of the bike and have a look at your ID - presumably the bike will be registered in your name, and you will be on your way. Even then, given how stretched and tight on budget the police are these days, I'd be surprised if a higher-upper signed off on letting a few officers go and watch a trackday in the hopes they might pick up a stolen bike.I suppose I'd better explain.
