Just bought a scooter with matt paint-how to care for it?

I cleaned my Hornet with normal shampoo, then gave it a spray/wipe with cheap furniture polish.

I use Harley denim cleaner (denim is Harley speak for matt) for the matt bits on my bike, just spray on and wipe off...
