Hi all,
I'm after some kevlar jeans. I wanted to get a pair of Hood jeans with the fancy gloopy armour, as they're near me and I could do with some shorter than usual ones.
Unfortunately, in between car and bike insurance in the same month and a new rear tyre on the bike after picking up a nail, and having to buy a house... I'm a little bit broke as fk.

In the interim, I've been looking at these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mens-motorbike-motorcycl...

Any thoughts? I know there's no kevlar at the bottom, but my boots would cover that.

I'd get some better ones at some point in the near future, but at the moment I'm in either baking hot (not very) waterproof textile bottoms, or normal jeans.

Also, what are kevlar jeans like in the wet?

this, I bought a set from aldi and the waist was fine "32 but then all the legs were odd sized so they don't sit right.

think I paid about £30 and to be honest they are great for just going to work and back (2 mile ride) and when im leaning down in the garage or at the bsb or somewhere I'm gonna be on my feet a lot

for that price id give them a try for easy rides, better than normal jeans

oh and you can water proof them didn't you see the "wax your jeans thread"

Unfortunately I've run out of crayola. Got a bit hungry the other day y'see? smile
I'll give them a bash on payday and report back. Seeing as I save over a fiver a day taking the bike instead of the car, they'll pay for themselves pretty soon!

I bought some kevlar jeans about 2 months ago. I tried some cheap ones which I, unfortunately, cannot remember the name of. If you don't mind how they look or fit then I suppose they might be OK. They looked and fitted f'ing awful though. I doubt the armour would have stayed anywhere near in place in a crash.

I ended up with some Triumph Heritage ones and in terms of fit and appearance, they are fantastic. The D3O armour is basically not visible in normal wear and I'd happily wear them as normal jeans with the armour out in cooler weather. That's the thing though, they get very warm in this current weather. They're expensive too. If it rains, you get piss wet through. smile

I bought some of the Australian Biker Gear ones, they feel just like normal jeans (and a bit thicker in the kevlar areas).
Service was v.good as well.
Although the sizing was odd, big on the legs but super tight on the waist so i had to go a size up.
More comfortable than leather trousers, but sweated just as much, came with hip & knee armour too.
Think they were about £55 & came next day.

I tried a couple of pairs off ebay about 2 years ago....the fit wasnt great and the armour wasnt in the right places...not impressed so they ended up back on ebay

Tried some Hood jeans next , fully lined with multiple kevlar layers and D30 armour...they fit great, the armour pockets are in the right place and I have been wearing them on the bike for 2 years/10K miles ish. If it gets cold just wear some thermals underneath and they are fine in winter too

In the rain they are ok in showers, even with the denim soaked your legs dont feel wet, it seems like the kevlar is shower resistant...however there is no kevlar lining in the crotch so where water runs down your jacket you still get soaked through there anyway

the Hood (or Kyrano) jeans are not the cheapest, but certainly not the most expensive either. You do get what you pay for though and I would buy them again

I have a pair of £30 aldi jeans, they are comfortable and have armour but don't seem very well made. I have normal jeans that are more sturdy and don't think the stitching would stay intact if I came off. Saving up for hood jeans.

Has anyone actually tried their jeans in anger yet? Did they stand up well?

I have a pair (Full Kevlar belt height down to boot height) I don't wear knee Armour though.
I can imagine an off will hurt just as much as in regular jeans, but my skin wont begin falling off and I wont be grinding my bones into the floor.
Based on the above, it's clear that you've probably never fallen off your bike before. The #1 most valuable thing any bike clothing protection can offer is impact (armour) protection. If you hit the road, the body tends to bounce (break) and roll...

If you're not going to have armour, you may as well save the money and just wear normal jeans. Kevlar jeans without armour will do sweet FA in preventing injury if you come off.

Regardless of your experience I disagree. That doesn't make sense.

Without abrasive resistance what holds your armour? What about 30mph when your jeans tear up? What about the AE reports that emphasise the damage caused by abrasion on the road surface which is often more difficult to treat than broken bones?

You'd do well to have both. But you'd be mental to favour abrasive damage over broken bones

chicks dig scars, chicks however don't dig road rash.

the feeling of raw flesh that has pussed up and now fused to the bed sheet with a sort of white/greenish tinge that is left by the white blood cells as they try to fend of infection isn't one that gets women wet

Bought a pair of Draggin jeans off of ebay for £80, as always a little worried about fakes, however when they arrived from an address in my home city I noted the invoice was from Fowlers (the largest and most expensive dealer in Bristol).

Ebay seller was not tagged as Fowlers so I imagine its their way of selling surplus without reducing prices in store.

Seller was 'numberworth'.

I havent checked to see if they still have any for sale and I bought mine a month or so ago.

I have a pair of the Aldi kevlar jeans and a pair of Furygan kevlar jeans.

Aldi jeans - fit like a sack of spuds, huge bulky knee armor but for the money they're not bad.

Furygan - I wear these every day to work, they're smart, the D3O armor is almost unoticable, and very comfy for wearing 12+ hours a day - I normally don't take them off when I'm at home so wear them from 7am until 10pm every day. They fit well too and look just like a pair of normal black jeans.

Will probably get a pair of the Hood jeans next, they look really good but I went for the Furygans as I could try them on.

As for getting wet in kevlar jeans... Avoid at all costs! I got caught in torrential rain last week in them, I had a wet crotch for about 5 hours afterwards. That is not fun at work.
