A fully-perforated leather suit with proper venting, a helmet with gopping great vents in it and boots and gloves with similar, combined with a decent base layer, sure.

You can go even cooler if you go with certain types of textiles, too.
Or you can just wear leather jacket, gloves, jeans and boots at a minimum. It's not 100% safe but a decent compromise provided you accept your chances of injury have gone up and ride accordingly. This is probably better recommended for more seasoned riders though.

I never crashed when wearing light clothes. I did ride like a tit when fully leathered up as I felt more invincible. (and crashed)

Congratulations Chris. I go in and out from bikes to cars. At present with young family I don't have the time but still have a supermoto tucked up in the shed.

I'd also recommend some time offroading. Not only is it the best fun on two wheels (in my opinion) it's good for fitness, very liberating, confidence inspiring and great for honing bike skills which are transferable to the road.

Love your writings Chris: they are about 'experience' and 'enjoyment'.

About the Duc. I bumped into this beastie:

Serious weapon.

Nuff to see.

I guess this is what most will ever see.

Clean cut looks.

Tech bits.

Good grief, quite a first bike. I hope the only Sunday Service we'll attend with you will be of the PH variety. Be safe.

You have to dress up like deep sea diver covering every inch of your body in kevlar and arrive drenched in your own sweat looking like you gone a few rounds with Maywhether.
No you don't.
Tell me more.

I'd love to own one. But only this factor stops me when my mate turns up to the pub like I've described above.

I've seen the guys in Majorca cruising with helmet on the handle bar of their Ducati, short sleeve shirt billowing behind and it looked rather fun. But surely the reality is rather different?
With you there, it's a bit like seeing people surfing in cold weather wearing a wet suit - kind of missing the point.

Never liked wearing helmets either.

Yeah, I wear a helmet for cycling and a helmet for skiing (in sub zero temps) and both leave me looking like I've just had a shower. And I'm not a sweaty type before anyone jumps in smile

Don't see how it can be that much different in a bike helmet, but must confess to knowing nothing about bike gear or technology.

Top effort, and a great choice of first bike

"For me it's an escape to another place. I'm not worrying about work or other crap, my mind is focused on riding"

that just about sums it up...its like meditating...and relaxing in a different kind of way, even when using the performance. Riding a bike is one of the things that keeps me remotely sane these days

enjoy Chris ...driving a "performance" car will never be the same again smile

Very nice bike! I had one in 1100 form last year, excellent for cruising about on and sounds glorious.

Good choice. The thing about riding bikes is the natural feeling of leaning in to corners, get used to it and then go back to cars and it all feels a bit wrong. Get the car sliding and all is forgiven though. I like both.

Having always had the GXR, ZX9R kind of bikes, I must admit having test ridden a Triumph Speed Triple, I loved it.

The former bikes are stunning but on the public road you too easily get tempted into silly speeds. The whole open bike feel vs fairing, goes some way to keeping you away from the top speeds and still enjoy the bike.

Re 2 cylinders vs 4., I find Triumph have the right compromise with a triple. Tons of torque, wonderful sound, smooth delivery and still decent rpm limits. Worth trying one.
