Nice one mate ... I'm now thinking four connectors so can create an extended loom properly ... smile

but bear in mind that if you replace the connector properly, it will work, and therefore won't need extending as you won't be needing to mess about with it any more iyswim

True, but I have just found a couple of loose pins in the main ignition loom connector as well.

So I've bought another loom and will be butchering this one to give solid connections...

That will probably be the problem then as it was intermittent.

That kind of fault is a fecking mere to find at least your heading in the correct direction.

Bought another loom last night .., will just wait for it to arrive, cleanup and install with di-electric grease.

Ordered new air filter too as mine is a little dirty ...

Funny thing is yamaha say check it every 12k ... But no mention of replacement ... I just cleaned it out at last service but that one is beyond saving now. £30 for an OE paper filter!!

Debating to check valve clearances whilst it is apart and waiting for coil loom and air filter ...

The plan was to do it in winter but given Ive 2-3 days before parts arrive and most of the bike is already stripped down it makes sense even if I do need to drop radiator again.

Not a job to look forward too mind

Decided to leave the valve clearances till winter as there is a lot more work to it than I thought to get in there.

In other news I traced the wires from the CIS back to the ECU.

White with black stripe - directly to ECU

Blue - goes to ECU but also TPS, ex up servo motor, iaps, aps, lean angle

Black with blue stripe - TPS, intake, aps, cps, intake air temp, lean angle

White and black stripe is the signal wire so reckon this was the culprit...

Interesting to find out anyway... Next step is clean the earths up (preventive maintenance) and wait for the parts.

I'm checking the whole bike off whilst it is in bits which is a good job as I found a small coolant leak from the front pipe ...

I also want to check resistances on the coils as one of the coils is pretty manky and on the same loom as the CIS which could cause interference?

Coils primary resistances are all just in spec on the higher side which is fine. Can't check secondary resistances though as can't get a good reading on my multimeter for some reason...

Having the factory yamaha service manual is a god send ...

Ignition coil sub loom...

You can see the three wire plug which is the ECU side of the CIS coupler ... The plug I suspect is a bit iffy.

The remaining plugs are for the coils with the white one being for AIS (I think... ) ...

That's clean laugh

I had to shake the dirt out of mine recently, it seems after 60k on one filter it gets so blocked the bike sucks oil out of the crank breather! explains why it started using oil for the first time ever. I'll replace it at 100k & then every 50k from now on to avoid that again.

I'm gob smacked to be honest... I'm not lax with maintenance but the state of it made me cringe! ... 30k miles ... I checked it at 18k as well and it just needed blowing back out. biggrin

I've been using a K&N "reusable" air filter. It's only about 6,000 miles before it's horrendous but that's the fault of the local wildlife.

After the next time it's going in the bin as there's an increasing amount of dirt I can't shift when cleaning it, but it still works out a substantive saving on air filters as I have gotten about three uses out of this one as Honda paper ones are equally expensive.

I know there's probably people that cringe at the concept of reusing filters, but I'm of the opinion the slight improvement in airflow makes up for the small amount of dirt you can't remove.

Spot of cleaning whilst it is in bits... still scrubs up pretty well.

Plan to clean up the ground wires and check the fuse box this evening. Little else I can do now until the parts arrive.
