It's much easier and much quicker to change gear using your thumb/forefinger than your foot, even when cranked over and doesn't upset the bike at all unlike a traditional manual change in the same circumstance. I have a DCT box on my bike and now covered 12,000kms.
Yep, totally understand.
But the one positive about the foot lever is you can only change one way. So if i'm in a corner, andmy foot is above the lever, i know i can only change up(race pattern) whereastrying to remember which sidegoes up or down, i know i'd get it wrong!!
Totally understand the benefitsof the buttons, but again taking the car worlds adoption, there's usually paddles/buttons on the wheel AND a normal shift lever. Forme, that would be the perfect set up.

It's a short learning excercise. I rarely get the up/down sequence wrong now, took me around 200kms to 'learn'. On the Hondas you can get a foot lever installed and change that way if you're inclined, not sure if Yamaha will do this, have to wait and see.

Well the last time I checked, humans only had 2 feet and 2 hands, so I can't imagine there being alternatives to hand operated buttons and/or foot levers! biggrin

Has anyone heard any updates on this?

I spoke to my local dealers a few weeks ago and they hadn't, but guessed it will be launched at either the Milan or Birmingham Shows.

Cannot see a NEC Birmngham launch. Either Intermot in Cologne (i.e. very soon) or EICMA in Milan a few months off.

My money's on Intermot in a fortnight. Germany's still quite a large enthusiast market and it means they can drag it round all the European shows.

I noticed they've subtley changed the exhaust outlet on the MotoGP bike recently so I'm guessing that's to mimic the forthcoming new R1 in one aspect of design what with one being a R1M (God help us) and other being a R1S.

Far too quick for the road and far too expensive for the track is my prediction. hehe

When I bought the VFR I opted for the manual for two reasons for myself:

  1. It was only my second bike, and it was going to be my only daily runner for a couple of years and I was afraid I might "unlearn" to ride a regular one by not having access to one.
  2. The VFR, and a lot of modern bikes, is deceptively fast. On the road, the end of 2nd gear is license losing area. The DCT is so smooth and quick, you hardly realises it goes through the gears. You're doing 150mph before you notice you went past 90 if you're not shifting yourself.
All small concerns and completely personal. I haven't regretted my decision yet but I know that I wouldn't have regretted a DCT one either.
The DCT box is an amazing piece of kit and, as said, it's coming for the top of the range of a lot of bikes. Honda has shown it can work on a bike.
Funny, as the CBR is, with the GSXR, probably the most "analogue" of the liter bikes.

It means that they turned the dial up all the way to 11.

Hasn't the FJR been running it for a while?
FJR has an automatic gearbox which isn't DCT, completely different. Only Honda has DCT technology on a road bike right now (for the last 4 years)
Isn't the FJR just an auto-clutch and the rest of it is a standard manual box?

Has anybody on here tried one (the auto-clutch FJR, not the standard FJR)? What's it like at low speed?

I think there's a world in between aiming your campaign for some teenage chronic Manga masturbator and just limply saying "please buy it".

Information about the product, for example, would be useful to inform potential buyers. Even if drip fed.

thats confirmed as 230 at the crank, so 207 at wheel, not THAT much of a step forward in engine terms but the electronics package sounds immense...

So that's actually more powerful than the unverified claim of 220 @ Crank, in road going version of the supercharged H2 then.

Not really going to do much to silence the criticisms that Kawasaki have wasted their time.
