DCT doesn't make much sense to me on a bike. Whats wrong with a quick shifter?

Also if it has 230 bhp you'll need to be in sight of a fuel station at all times. The original model struggled to average 30s MPG with 'just' 170 bhp.

I test rode a VFR with DCT transmission. Jumpy and clunky at low speeds, no ability to slip the clutch around really tight bends in town. Higher speeds it was pretty cool but takes half the fun out of doing it yourself. And like somebody else said, what's wrong with a QS? Seems a bit out of place on an R1.

230 bhp? I will belive it when independant tests confirm it!

DCT is a suprise though, because normally a company will trial such a system on a less important product first. But perhaps it's a system more akin to the motogp type gearboxes, and not actualy a DCT? very interested in this though, much like i was very itnerested in the wobbly crank engine when it first appeared

Hasn't the FJR been running it for a while?

The 230hp refers to a "race version", is this a road bike?

FJR has an automatic gearbox which isn't DCT, completely different. Only Honda has DCT technology on a road bike right now (for the last 4 years)

I thought that was a conventional gearbox with an automatic clutch...not a DCT like seen on honda's?

There's a pic on the link in the OP; if it looks anything like that (ie. like the 09 onwards machine with that MASSIVE arse, bulbous middle and horrible lights (that look like they've been in an accident and lost the lens covers)) then I won't be opening my wallet for one.

This was deeply saddening for me - I'm an out and out R1 person (still have a 99) and have had at least one continually since 2000, but when my 08 was stolen and I was unable to find an unmullered replacement (see bar-end thread re. bolt on tat) I gave up and bought a new MV F4.

R1s up to the 08 model were beautiful bikes - the new one just looks st - bulbous and contrived. I couldn't care less how fast it goes (with any fast bike these days the ultimate performance is a total irrelevance, even on the track).

Of course I will be delighted to be proven wrong and the new one will look stunning.

I know; and my point is that I won't be buying one if it still looks like that. I'll probably be wallowing around in a sea of my own vomit.

havent Yams in motogp now got a quick-shifter that works down the box too ? would like one of these rather than some kind of DCT

Although I have little knowledge and never used a DCT - it doesnt sound a great thing on a sportsbike

I'm sure Yamaha would love to be first to bring the seamless gearbox to the masses. I reckon it'll only be on the race version though. Can't see it being a lot of use on the road as even with the QS I often like to manually shift up to slip the clutch on my bike.

Having said that the DCT on my car is fecking awesome and on a bike going quickly on track it'd be brilliant too I reckon.

Apart from extending the owner's penis and providing top trumps and pub bragging rights, what earthly fkn use is 230bhp on a road bike?

Given it's only available on the race bike then I think that answers that question
