The scrape looks pretty bad, but that hole in his knee looks fking awful.
Still, wear what you want. My policy is wear leathers and don't preach about it, wear shorts and t shirt and don't cry about it, everyone is happy.

my personal safety nazi standpoint is
wear gloves you fools.
rest of the gear is optional.
this guys leg wound looks like it will give him some pain for a bit and might leave a nice scar.
but meh.
because of no gloves he cant wipe his own arse, then wash his hands and eat food,he cant put on a contraceptive and pleasure his buddy.
looks like he will be fielding for a while.
gloves always people

The one thing that always hits the deck is hands. Wear gloves folks.
AS for protection, doesn't matter if you ride a Chinese 4 stroke moped or a twin turbo'ed No2 injected mega bike if you fall off at 30mph the damage will be the same.
Most accidents happen at low speeds. I've ridden super bikes in shorts and been kitted out on a 400. Not big or clever. Touch wood never crashed either, only accidents i've had have been at very low speed. Turned right over, YPVS. Pulled out on AR125 with a lot of tweaks,
MX worst was skinning my palms, gloves remained intact. Unlike the flappy skin. Fixed with super glue and no later issues.
Never so much as scratched a helmet.
Probably been lucky, perception is the key, know the road ahead, all other road users are tts. The only folk i know bar 1 didn't, rode like idiots, some are dead, some are maimed, not ,any are here.

Where all the gear all the time, full leathers.
It may just save your life as well as all the assorted costs etc should you be hurt.
Erm...how does leather save your life then ? it might stop soft tissue damage , but save your life, I'm not so sure about. It may just save your life as well as all the assorted costs etc should you be hurt.
Having said that I'm considering going full YMCA & getting a leather cutoff to wear in this evilly hot weather.

It's funny, I've never ridden wearing shorts but plenty of times in a t shirt though. However I've never not worn gloves, just never fancied ending up with paws like the geezer in the vid.
Same here. I've done 150+ in shorts but never ungloved even on a moped, yes i am an idiot!Vulgar LS2 said:

You come off at 40/50 mph let's say. It won't take long for the friction as you slide down the road to go through your skin and down to bone.
Then as mentioned there is shock as well.
Boots prevent some nasty injuries to your ankles.I have met a bloke who's ankle was so badly damaged from a bike crash in trainers that it was amputated in the end.
We all have a choice and at 30mph round town you may well be ok but above that I don't fancy my chances.

I find it ok when I'm moving but the minute you stop it's not nice. :-)

also, try and wipe your arse in full leathers, they are designed to stop your arms getting pulled behind your back (or so i was told)
As an adult you can make your own choices, you don't need ask a bunch of strangers for advice.
Wearing full leathers is all well and good but does not make you invincible.
Wearing shorts and t shirt will feel great but a slide down the road is going to be un pleasant.
Assess the risks and act accordingly.
