The best way to avoid injury or heat stress is to go on the Interwebs and engage in a long, drawn out debate about leathers versus Levi's, thereby removing the risks of being on a bike altogether.

Wear what you want. No one gives a fk.

yes, certainly cooler and some kevlar jeans (with multiple layers) are as good/better than some leather ...not all are equal and some suit manufacturers are using both leather with kevlar as well these days

black leather suit, sat in traffic in 30deg heat is not so comfortable....but there is a huge range of kit available these days a lot of which looks like regular commuting clothes rather than the default black leather biker outfit...

proper answer is: skin if you can react in time & learn to roll, leather if the best you can manage is a slide.

There.

Or kill you due to overheating!
if that happens you're not riding fast enough

but seriously, thats ste. we're all adults and know when were too hot. pull over and get a drink!
That's why so many adults die every time we have a heat wave!

It's not that the heat is likely to kill your average UK motorcyclist but it has been proven many times that heat and in particular dehydration can have a detramental effect on the ability to make good quality fast decissions. Making the wrong on a motorcycle can be fatal.

Tenuous, at best.

I'm a believer in being responsible for your own risk assessments. Mine are normally based on how I feel on that particular day

For those that choose to expose skin when riding, you may want to consider what makes me think twice..... at 30mph, sliding along the tarmac will result in 1mm of skin per metre being worn away. If you don't hit anything first, it could take 5 metres to stop sliding

The link is a bit gruesome, so if you're a sensitive soul, or a Scouser, then don't watch it.

Just a thought for those riding without a gloves or leathers. Not my place to say what people should wear and it's their choice.

I saw what happened to my gear when I had my off. Personally speaking, there's nothing in the world to convince me to ride without it.

One of the unexpected benefits of leathers is they keep all of your bits in one place, they couldn't find all of the bone from my leg when I came off...

Minumum I will wear is Helmet (duh), Gloves and boots. Broke my finger at the start of the year while wearing gloves, don't want to imagine how bad it would have been if wasn't wearing them.

Seen someone riding wearing flip flops before, that's a bit too far for me.

Dunno. He looks foreign though, so I'll hazard a guess at a stolen one.
