We're planning a trip to Greece the end of September for a month. I say planning, we're working like mad to try and earn the money and get work cleared so we can have the time off so not much planning done yet.

I'd like to catch a ferry to Greece from Venice for one of the trips, the other way I'd like to ride the whole way. This would mean riding through France, across Italy, down the Croatian, Bosnian (tiny bit), Montenegrin, Serbian and finally Albanian coasts.

I was talking about this to a friend who's in military security, he seems to think all sounds good except the Albanian stretch. he thinks we'd be leaving our selves open to a fleecing by local police etc. I really want to ride down the Dalmatian coast and fancy seeing a bit more of that part of the world.

Any one got any experiences or advice please?

A friend of mine drove to Turkey a few years ago. I recall the trickiest bit bit was Serbia etc. ISTR he could only spend a day or so in one of the countries (stipulation by his insurers, I think).

Did the trip to Greece in 2012. We went with the Ferry from Venice on the way out and Ferry back from Patra to Bari on the way back. We got as far as sounio south of Athens on our 3 week trip. We did a couple of greek islands and spent some time off the bikes in Athens too.

How much was the ferry from/to Venice?

We've wanted to do this for years but never got round to it. Problem this time is getting ferry details from the Greeks.

We used Minoan Lines Ferries (http://www.minoan.gr/en#), my mates GF is greek so found us discounted deals. She booked it all for us. We got a deal with a cabin for 3 of us and 3 bikes.
Was just over €200 each return.
We did:
VENICE - IGOUMENITSA on the way out
PATRA - ANCONA on the way back - we scrubbed Bari I remember now.

Noting they will give you 20% discount with ARC europe card!

Site given by other poster is a good one, I remember looking at the one first before the above was sorted.

Have a google for Horizions Unlimited & AdvRider? (not sure on the name of the second) they've got forums full of info from people who've ridden round the world several times etc.

ADAC membership - my membership card has it on it.

You'll probably want european wide breakdown cover anyway so its worth the €80ish fee
