Howdoo! As above, does anyone know of an Isle Of Man pub that does B&B.

My Mate and I have never been, and we are planning to go and see the classic TT in 2015. We want to ride there and stay in a pub, on the circuit, and just watch the racing, drink beer, eat cardiac breakfasts and sleep!

Done a quick interweb search, plenty of B&B's but can't see anything in a pub... Anyone recommend somewhere? Or are we going to have to walk to and from the pub! drunk

Cheers,
M.

If you want to sleep forget anywhere on the TT circuit, we live in Crosby and it starts at 5am with bikes whizzing past. TT is a lot busier than the Classic TT but the numbers are rising for the Classic, but to answer your question there are only three pubs that I can think of that do accommodation on the course and that is the Glen Helen hotel,Sulby Glen hotel and Ginger Hall hotel in Sulby. Where ever you stay you will have the time of your life, but get booked early ferry and accommodation.

Hi, thanks for your speedy reply! smile

Yes we are planning to book early, that's why I'm enquiring now. I believe it is end of august, beginning of September 2015.

I made some enquiries with regency travel, to look into a complete package, but their reply was strange to say the least! "no availability for two single rooms in any hotels".confused
They want to sell us a "Snoozebox Portable Hotel" No explanation as to what that is.. and "VIP tickets can be added after booking" well it would be nice to know what the options are rolleyes

Further investigation led me to believe B&B is a no go, as most are booked for the following year before the guests leave, and I've read that the ferries can be a nightmare! Hence my enquiries for a package deal. But the reply I just received doesn't inspire confidence....
Then I got another e-mail from the same agency, but a different person, offering B&B, & self catering, and that race tickets will be on sale 22nd November. I didn't think you needed tickets to watch the racing?

So I think We'll stick with the original plan, and I´ll look into the pubs you have given me, and try booking the ferries ourselves.
This is one of our bucket list trips smile

Thanks again smile

Whilst the TT in June books up really early, the Classic TT/Manx doesn't - we booked crossings and B&B in Douglas in February last year (for last years event).

I wouldn't bother with trying to stay on the course as not much happens on it outside of the racing, plus being quieter than the TT, you can get to most vantage points easy from Douglas before the racing starts.

Be warned, if you are expecting TT atmosphere you won't get it, the whole event is a lot quieter with locals going about their business more.

Yes I would forget them and do it yourself, snoozebox is normally just at TT and is a block of expensive containers set up at the grandstand and about £100 a night. There are a few spots you have to pay grandstand and a few fan zones the rest of spectating spots are free, there are plenty to choose from as the course is 37.75 miles. I would highly recommend you visit the island at least once just to experience the racing. We loved it so much we moved here. If you need any help just pm me.

Did you find moving to the island hard? I visited for the TT this year and have given serious consideration to relocating. The whole way of life on the island really appealed to me.

Thanks again for the helpful comments smile And thank you shunter for your offer of help. If we get stuck, I´ll definitely PM you smile
I think maybe I am trying too early. The Classic probably isn't as popular as the regular TT. Suits me smile
I´ve sent a couple of e-mails to Ginger Hall, but didn't get a response. I'll chill out a bit and maybe wait a couple more months. I´ll keep researching in the meantime though.
My mate and I are really looking forward to it! As I said, it`s one of our bucket list trips It'll be a bit of an adventure before I get there, as I´ll be riding the bike up from Mallorca. An Island to Island trip!;)

Moving here was our dream after coming for TT and MGP for 10 years, the hardest part of moving is if you need to work, they operate a work permit system on which you have to have a permit for the first 5 years. Island workers get preference on jobs and you have to do your 5 year stint before you become a IoM worker. You cannot claim benefits either for your first 5 years and housing is very expensive,as are utilities. It is a beautiful place to live and virtually crime free.

Classic TT is a great festival and although it's getting busier each year it's not got the TT rush. You may struggle to get a hotel on the course but the towns are very small here and that is all that is in them, you may be better to look for a hotel in Douglas as there is a lot more going on and you have more choice of where to eat if you want a drink as well as taxis are expensive.

Thanks for the advice. I am glad that you sound like you are living the dream! We are currently living in central London so the house prices in IOM seem more reasonable there smile I'll have to see what the job market is like for me and my GF when it is time to move.

Yikes I am glad I don't live in London if prices here seem reasonable. I have worked in London,I would advise a trip in winter just to see the difference from TT it is like a ghost town,we have a population of 80k and the island is a different place outwith the racing dates. We both love it but a lot of women don't settle due to lack of shops and places to go.

Bit of a thread revival, but my friends have a house (sleeps 6) in Greeba which is 100 yrds from the Hawthorn pub and 50 yrds from the circuit.

Just become available for the Classic. It's a house rental, not B&B but the Hawthorn does excellent food if you don't want to cook yourself.

Very (very) nice place.

PM me and I'll forward details to the owners.

My 2p

Only been to the TT once, in 1986, loved it,...took my bike over.. stayed at The Friendship B&B on Douglas front.

Been a couple of times on holiday....I don't think I would really like to live there, because other than Douglas, Ramsey, Peel, Port Erin and St Mary, there's not really that much to do.....(imo)

I may be wrong though, if you enjoy living there great...smile

Thank you very much for the heads up! But we are sorted now, with a B&B in Ramsey.
I met a fellow here in Mallorca who used to live there, who knew a lady who does B&B, and he put us in touch.
I also had a fellow come up to me to talk about the bike one day, while I was out for a blast. He was from there, but had moved out here, he advised me to stay in Peel, but I took what I could to be on the safe side.
Really looking forward to the adventure smile I hope the Buell manages to make it there before shaking itself to pieces! hehe
Need to do some research on luggage now...

No worries. The reason its just become available is because they want to go on holiday with us.... to Mallorca! They've been renting the house for main TT week for years, usually to a group that come over from Australia but not rented for the Classic before.

Really is an excellent spot. You do get blocked in during the race by road closures, but there is a cycle route just down the lane which takes you in to Douglas so it is still possible to get about. You can get to the pub over the back gardens too.

I'm sure they'll have no problem in renting it out - Classic is becoming more popular nowadays.

Have a gud'un.

Wow sounds great! What a coincidence they are coming here! We could have done a house swap smile Although I don't think my Wife would have been up for the TT! hehe
Cheers,
Mick.

We were talking about potential for house swap last night.

The house is actually a 5 bedrooms over 3 floors (they put personal stuff in the kids rooms and lock the doors when renting out) with massive living area & huge patio and has been gutted and modernised so is the sort of place that people do want to holiday in.

If you know anyone in Mallorca that is interested in a swap give me a shout!

Right. Possible TT newbie as I've found out I finish uni before the TT starts means I have to go.

Where should I look for accomodation? Hotels/B&B/camp sites etc. I'm assuming it's late now as everyone has booked it last year.
