Everyones got different head/neck dimensions so whats quiet for one person might not be for another. What I can report is that I bought a Shoei GT Air last year and it's load quieter FOR ME than any of my previous Arais. The downside to the GT Air is that it mists up extremely easily (and I don't want to be using a fog city insert just to cover the early morning when it's still cool). Generally speaking Schuberth lids seem to have a reputation for being as quiet as you can get.
The best option is to talk a friendly dealer into letting you take a couple of lids for a short test ride so you can try them back to back. Good luck.

I bought one last year as well, and yep, it fogs up quickly – but only at the very edge where the pinlock doesn't cover the visor. And seeing as it comes with a pinlock included in the box, it's hardly a whinge!MrOrange said:
Schubert C3 + plugs
The C3 is the quietest Scuberth helmet, the flip front means the padding around the neck can be made thicker as you don't need to be able to get your head in the aperture. I've noticed the S2 is quite a squeeze to get on, some people just can't.Edited by MrOrange on Tuesday 29th July 20:37
I also use earplugs - these: http://www.ultimateear.com/motorcyclist.php

I've got a pair of plugs from Ultimate Ear as well (had them about 3 years), but they weren't quite a perfect fit which I only noticed after a few weeks of using them. I started using the foam plugs again and my £100 pair of customer plugs just sit on the drawer unused nowI also use earplugs - these: http://www.ultimateear.com/motorcyclist.php

So, After trying the Schuberth S2 it didn't fit amazingly well, also I haven't heard the best things about it noise wise and then it turned out you couldn't fit a Sena to it. So I ended up buying a Shoei GT Air, which, after my HJC, is much nicer in every way. It is also quieter than before.
Can't help you with Arai experience, as my previous lid was a Schuberth S1 Pro, but I now have the Shoei NXR which I think is terrific.
I don't find the noise significantly different from the S1, but the absence of turbulence, especially when looking over your shoulder, is excellent. The fit, and plushness of the interior is also very good compared to any helmet I've had so far. IAWE...

If you have a Shoei with those ear hole spaces you can get little pads to go on the inside for about a fiver. Stuck some in my XR-1100 and while the difference isn't vast, it is an improvement.
